Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So Mario Kart 8 Isn't Going To Give The Wii U Even 1 Month At 100k+ In The US?

Well... The wiiU is pretty much a doomed console by now in the eyes of many so I doubt anyone is really willing to predict crazy numbers cause the wiiU just doesn't sell

With that being said... NPD for Nintendo might exceed expectations considering how it exceeded expectations with MK8 software sales so we will see how it turns out but predict low to be safe

They need to drop the tablet and cut the price as soon as possible. And create a Wii-U Sports HD bundle targeted at mass market Wii owners and Girls.

It takes some time and effort to make existing games and software capable of running without the oversized tablet but it is well worth the effort if the system can receive a 100$ price cut. Nintendo needs to act now, even if it is almost too late. A mass-market Wii-U Sports HD Bundle should have been there from day 1 instad of Nintendoland and the tablet should have been much lighter and smaller, so it is time to redesign or drop it.

Yep.
It's clear that MK8 was unable to make the WiiU more mainstream. IMO Wii U is still tracking for 15 Million LTD.
Maybe amiibo + Smash can pull some magic, but i doubt it.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

I agree with this. I can use the pro controller to navigate the OS with no problems and the only reason I cant use it in the eshop/miiverse is because Nintendo doesnt want to patch in support. So few games use the gamepad in any meaningful way, most are playable with just the pro controller. Perhaps Nintendo doesnt want to fragment its market, or more likely they just want to force Amiibo on all of us. Either way the gamepad is a damn albatross, considering how much money they spent on it they have very little to show in return.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Yeah, it does seem kinda pathetic that all these games we've been excited for the Wii U have come and gone, and haven't really helped with Wii U sales. Hopefully, Smash Bros. will drive Wii U sales even more than MK8.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Yeah. The Wii U is pretty much dead sales wise. On to the next one.

I liked their E3 I was fairly consistent with that. But I've also pretty much felt Wii U has been doomed all along, unfortunately even though I liked their E3, that doesn't change much in terms of their market performance.

To be honest I don't think the Wii U is really that different from the Wii at the same point in their life cycle in terms of software quality. Wii U might honestly be a tad better at the same point ... it just doesn't have the same casual gimmick and Nintendo doesn't have an answer to Apple/Android stealing all theirfickle casual base away.

Nintendo can't compete with $1/free games on stylish Apple devices, and waggle is now 8 years old, the novelty has worn off. So that's kinda screwed the big N and the Wii U really wasn't built to compete with the PS4/XB1 for core gamers head on either.

That basically where the cookie crumbles. Mario Kart 8 also is a better game than Mario Kart Wii, but to no avail. Not much Nintendo can do now but hope for a miracle I guess.
