i agree with him, whatever, its not like you have to buy it, a d doing so spoils the game anyway, its not like buying them gives you an unfair advantage in multiplayer.

people whining over the most trivial of shit these days

i wonder if they would have whined in the early 90s that they had to buy game mags to get the cheat codes from,  too

Isn't that how it starts, trivial?  It's how it becomes acceptable to the point when its NOT trivial and you have DLC for huge chunks of games, even bigger than what they already cut out and make you pay for twice.

It's this kind of attitude that allows things to fester and become worse and worse.  When your favorite IP starts charging you for the next level or the energy refils or multiplayer, maybe you'll sing a different tune.

Nope that isn't how anything starts. People buying them is all they care about. If enough people pay for them they keep doing it no one buys they stop doing it. The developer is free to experiment with any revenue making model they wish. You and I are free to spend on their offerings or not. Don't like the boosters etc. Don't pay for em.

Also, just because they offer these types of DLC why does knowing itis there diminish your enjoyment of the game(s)? The fervor with which people react to this stuff is just so comical. It's your money don't spend it if the content doesn't appeal to you.

As if these corperations don't attempt to push and force their way into consumers pockets.  It has nothing to do with diminishing my enjoyment and everything to do with pushing what they can get away with.  Like all "trivial" problems, the problem will evolve and grow until it becomes accepted.

You don't think that you are being just a tad hyperbolic? Terms like "force" just don't seem to be appropriate here. Of all the Ubisoft games I have ever purchased not once has any of their corporate cronies come to my home put a gun to my head and told me, in one of those threatening French accents, that I must pry open my wallet and drop $1 on a booster pack.

If it becomes accepted why is it a problem? We aren't talking about IV drug use or the wanton murder of other human beings here we're talking about video game DLC. It is an option that Ubisoft (and others these days) make available for those who want it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Props to ubisoft for being honest. If you don't like then don't buy it. Why cry about it?

Let's totally ignore the fact that a certain company offers something similar, but for free!

So you'll have no problem with buying half your game at $60 and sold the other half in bite size chunks?  But it's just video games, it's just money, right?  Belittiling what you're paying for is exactly what companies want you to do, so it doesn't seem like "a big deal, man", when they're ripping you off and robbing you blind.

I guess ignorance is bliss. I haven't felt ripped off even once over DLC. Mainly because I hardly ever buy DLC (Skyrim was anotable exception on PC) and I wouldn't ever pay for a booster pack. And in no way has my seeing them available in uPlay or the PSN store, Steam etc. made me less satisfied with a game.

Sorry I just don't see what all the fuss is about.

Doesn't bother me. If there are lazy asses willing to pay money to avoid playing the game, every company should take advantage of them. Just like Battlefield selling weapon shortcuts for 3-4 dollars, for those that don't want to bother leveling up.

The only reason companies continue to do it is because there are people willing to pay. And I support them in spirit, they are surely not getting any of my money.

I agree with this. As long as the demand is there for people to get the dlc, companies will continue to do it. I personally won't get it though.

Also, Conception 2 fan eh? XD

Estelle and Adol... best characters ever! XD

I already seriously dislike Ubisoft. They're a very arrogant company.

I wonder how bad things will be by the end of the generation. More companies will follow suit so the additional revenue will get re stretched, and a new format to exploit will need elucidated.

I feel as though these practices could get seriously ugly later on in the gen.

These "boosters" or "microtransactions" that make the game go by quicker or gives you more resources have come from the mobile market. In those mobile F2P games, technically you don't HAVE to buy boosters to play or finish the games, but the games are designed in such a way that you really need to use them if you want to get any progress.

Now granted console games haven't gotten to that point, but devs could potentially start to make their games more grindy or just tedious to encourage people to buy boosters and get progress. That is my greatest fear which could really ruin future games.

Last year, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag launched alongside a handful of "Time Saver" downloadable content packs. For $1 or $2, players could stock up on in-game resources, or reveal the locations of the game's many collectibles and activities without the need for actual exploration. That sort of perk would have been freely accessible through cheat codes in previous generations, and it's not hard to imagine the uproar charging for them would have caused in the early days of the last generation of systems. Speaking with GamesIndustry Internationalat E3 last month, Ubisoft VP of digital publishing Chris Early recalled the reaction--or lack thereof-- to those time-saver packs.

"There was no resistance," Early said. "Maybe there were 12 guys somewhere who said something, but whatever. As a whole, there wasn't a problem."

Disgusting.  Thier attitudes are amoung the fucking worst and most arrogant imaginable.

You're being sarcastic right?

Conception fan, and a pretty girl with nice breasts fan, whether real or animated :)

I certainly would be very upset if Square Enix were to make Lara Croft completely flat chested, and then charge $1.99 for B cup, 2.99 for C, 3.99 for D, and $4.99 for DD cups.

Sure, I'd pay a fiver, but I would still be upset :)
