One step closer to parity!

With PS3?

Parity with PS3 would be about... 880x720p.

These consoles have limitations. Even ND apparently struggled to make a PS3 game 60 fps on the PS4. They also claim Bluray is too limited in space.

TLOU is more than a direct port fyi. First off, TLOU struggled with even 30 FPS (noticable dips all the time), was rendered in 720p (less than half 1080p), and had no AA (the AA part is based on my eyes, so there could be a small amount I guess) on the PS3. The ps4 is being rendered in 1080p. It is also getting a constant frame rate of 60fps based on what ND is saying, which means that they didn't really struggle to do it. Also, if the framerate is constant, then it can be assumed that the ps4 would be capable of running a higher frame rate, but they locked the frame rate. Not to mention, they will have AA this time around. Those few things alone will make the game far harder to render. Not to mention increased detail on everything. So, I feel that we can say two things, this is more than just a direct port that had a ton of work put into it, and I have yet to see the info that ND had trouble doing 60fps on the ps4.

I did some searching around. I'm finding the PS3, 360 and Wii U versions are 880x720p.

The resolutions differ in previous CoD games on PS3. I don't think vertical resolution went beyond 720p though.

According to Digital Foundry:

PS3: 600 x 860 = 516,000

360: 600 x 1024 = 614,400

Wii U: 720 x 880 = 633,600

ew...Wii U res is pitiful

I understand this is an early build but anything less than a locked 60fps is bad for a twitch shooter imo. Hopefully SH Games can iron out the framerate by the time the game release.

Ah, its lower than I thought.

On a side note, you're putting the numbers in the wrong places. You confused me on what was the horizonal and vertical resolution.

Better than what the ps4 version of COD ghost was. Although it was pretty much always above 60 fps, it dips way too much making it feel like you are stuttering. Stable fps > high fps that dips constantly.

30fps? Well I guess it's unplayable. That's what everyone keeps telling me about Driveclub. Oh well.

No...

People just anticipate 60 fps given that has always been a focus.

Anyhow, nothing is confirmed. This isn't the final build.

ew...Wii U res is pitiful

Given that it is higher than PS3 and 360, what does that make them? Beyond pitiful?

Yes. Whatever it takes to get 60 fps amirite?
Don't recall it was even locked.

They'd probably be best taking it down to 720p :/ It wouldn't get them to 60fps but it'd stabilize the frame rate a lot. I'm all for variable frame rates (post 30fps), but there's a limit to how variable is acceptable. The MP may still be 60fps though, given the series history. They probably just feel the need to make the campaign flashy and "next gen".

I wonder what the PS4 version will be putting aside totally legitimate and in no way forced 'parity', I'd guess they will choose a higher frame rate on this occasion (if they have half a brain anyway). As lovely as 1080p is i'd much rather more stability in this case. I can live with 900p if it means the frame rate won't be bungee jumping during the whole damn story.
