Is this legal?

Obviously not.

Ok, then what's it doing on this site?

Of course it's legal. If you don't do anything illegal with it (Playing homebrew, or emulating games you possess is legal)

You own your wii U, so you can do anything you want with it. If it's legal to throw things trough your window, there is no reason you can't do it with a Wii U

"Nintendo have already sent out an automatic update to prevent such circumstances from occurring, but hackers have already confirmed to get the code working on the newest firmware 5.0. There is a method available publicly, but we won't be posting it here."

Is what one of them said.

Case in point, why post these when they will lead nowhere anyways

Should i report to Nintendo???

Soooo is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Obviously a device that promotes theft of intellectual properties is not a good thing.

Unless you are a worthless, entitled c*nt thief that is, then it is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

"U"DE or ODE devices are for one thing only; to "pretend" to act as an optical drive so you can play games that you do not own through digital or backup disc format.

If you want a "backup" of your game, go buy another copy and put it away somewhere, sealed, in a RubberMaid bin.

"...bu...bu...bu...but I already paid for it once, why should I have to buy it again?"

So just because you bought a f'ng Big Mac one time, that means you get free Big Macs for the rest of your life?

So just because you bought a f'ng 2014 Dodge Charger, that means you get free f'ng Dodge Chargers for the rest of your life?

No, you get insurance to protect yourself and your investment and a warranty from the delaer/manufacturer.

Yes, believe it or not, it is technically the same thing and there is no justification to getting something for free unless the company who originally sold the product wants you to have unlimited copies for free. If your copy breaks and there is a warranty, call in the warranty or purchase an extra one at a store like Wal-mart for a few dollars more upon your original purchase.

It all comes down to archival laws in your country and whatever the copyright/user license allows from the company who distributed the media.

Nintendo, by copyright/user license, does not allow "archival" copies of their intellectual property. Period.

You serious?? lol!

1. There is absolutely nothing wrong on having backups as long as you purchased the game once.

2. Nintendo doesn't allow backups? They don't allow copying in a way that you could share the game. Backing up just for yourself is totally fine. Or why else would they have implemented that convenient function in the WiiU that allows you to copy all your eshop purchases on as many HDDs as you like? I guess they've done it so you could back up your games!

You can copy between two devices, doesn't mean you can copy the game and have it work on another system. This is basic Wii knowledge. You can't take content that is tied to one console and use it on another, it's just not possible on the Wii U, or the Wii for that fact. You really don't own a Wii U do you?

You should read comments when you're going to quote them.

I was talking about backups for yourself. Go buy a WiiU and try, it's possible.

I never claimed you could use that backup on another console.

I even explicitly said the opposite:

'They don't allow copying in a way that you could share the game'

System updates to fix this?, ask Nintendo if any of their Wii updates stopped the previous hardware IO emulators from working.

ODEs are hard to identify.

That's my point, people in this thread are thinking its just the case of a simple system update, when it clearly isnt.
