Forums - Gaming Discussion - Anyone else feel games without achievements/trophies are a waste of time?

I have mixed feelings on the subject. In one respect achievements/trophies add replay value to games that might just be considered throwaways once you finish the main campaign/story. On the other hand, just playing a game to experience and enjoy the game without worrying if I'll be able to 100% the game was a very liberating experience (when I got back into Nintendo gaming). Having the merits of a game determine if you wanted to play it more rather than worrying about an imperfect score was refreshing.

Achievements mean less than nothing to me. I can't believe they could hold such power over a person. In-game specific achievements can be nice, though. I had fun collecting all the trophies and unlocking all the characters in Smash Bros.

They certainly help with replay value, so do unlockables and such that arent achievements. They piss me off when the achievements are glitched or unobtainable(servers shut down or whatever.) Games without such additives are less likely to have 2nd playthroughs.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Lol no its not. I don't game to feel like I've achieved something. I game to enjoy an experience. The end goal isn't important, it's the experience getting their. If all I cared about was the end goal I would have platinumed Hannah Montana already 😁

I'm the opposite, I like them on playstation and MS consoles but they aren't up to par with steam achievements yet (for me). I prefer steam achievements 'personally' because of the achievement showcases where you can display your best ones by rarity, or just hand pick your favorite ones. That's what trophies should be about for me, showing off your best ones. I do quite like the platinum system on playstation though.

Could be a mix of the two. I think Demon/Dark Souls and many other games are popular partly because of the feeling of achievement they give.

No, but I really like the sound when I get a trophy.

Sure and I love SM3DW for that but it pains me that they won't get added to a big collection like I have on PS.

I was thinking the same thing, having the stamps you earn from games go into a big collection would have been much better. The only way I can use the stamps I earned for SM3DW is by posting to miiverese through the game.

It would have been awesome for Nintendo to implement an achievement/trophy like system for their games also. I don't feel games are a waste of time without them but they definitely add to the game. I have often replayed games just to get trophies and achievements.

"Anyone else feel games without achievements/trophies are a waste of time?"

Not really. From time to time I still play and enjoy games that do not have trophies or achievements. Trophies and achievements do add value to the gaming experience.

Of course I don't agree with you!

If your motivation to play games is getting achievements/trophies, you should stop playing. Also, lol at Steam achievements sucking when they are the same that on console.

Please excuse my bad English.
