Sony or whoever being lazy
Just because some PS4 owners didn't own a PS3 doesn't mean you can remake a game from a year ago

PS4 is backwards compatible right? If so then that makes this game even more unnecessary

The PS4 isn't backward compatible. The console doesn't have the PS3 processor and GPU in it, and X86 can't emulate the Cell processor yet either. And if it could, the components in the PS4 wouldn't be powerful enough to properly pull it off.

it was explained above, it makes alot of sense for it not to be backwards compatible.

Guess it is a thing of the past

:/

Why are people bringing up the Wind Waker port in this thread? It's about the Last of Us remaster!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Really its a terrible decision, for everyone involved.

PS3 hardware in the PS4 which is the cheapest route outside of streaming will cost at least 200$.

Sony can take the loss and accumulate about 2 billion in losses from this alone i.e 8.4 mill * 200 = 1.6 billion.

Sell the PS4 at 600$, get destroyed by the competition in exactly the same way as the PS3, and consumers have to pay more for the system.

Or they can weaken the PS4 by using the cell in it, effectively making a console that cost 200$ that would probably be at parity with Wii U in performance at best, much below it at worse. I.E a 400$ console, competing with a much more powerful 500$ console and an at parity 300$ console.

Every scenario is bad, its really an issue of purposely using exotic architectures in the past.

In other words, Backwards compatibility would have made the PS4 an instant flop.
