Blue3, that's uncalled for. If you read the thread, you'd see that he didn't realize the source was considered untrusted, and that he didn't like the source article that much anyway. He was just posting what he found, like he said.

If you don't like the news that people are posting, post some of your own. He's not just posting anti-PS3 threads as far as I know...but it is in the news a lot anyway.

By the way, I haven't seen you say one thing that wasn't anti-Wii, so you shouldn't talk.

Yeah, thanks for being more pro-active on this one, Ben.  I think that's what this forum needs, is someone to spray a little water on the flames before they get out of control like what happened this morning with Kwaad.  It's a shame that went down the way it did, but hopefully it will serve as an example.

Anyway, on this topic, it's my understanding that the PS3 folding client is drastically different from other clients, and the amount of useful work being done cannot be directly compared between a PC, a PS3, or a GPU.  Not that you can't measure GFLOPS or something like that, but it's harder to put it in context when the problems they're solving are completely different.  And you can't compare points per day, because they award points differently for different client types.  Therefore I think it would be difficult to make a meaningful comparison between the usefulness of a PS3 folding vs. a hypothetical 360 folding, GPU or no GPU.

You should read Stanford's PS3 FAQ before guessing what the 360 could do.

actually the folding at home people themselves confirmed that the ps3 has way more folding at home power than the 360, and funny thing that the 360 doesn't have it...

I'm definitely not of the "defend Apple at all costs" mentality, though. In fact, I'm often harder on the company than most Windows users are. I'm pretty critical of everybody, even the companies I buy products from.

actually you'll find the ATi GPU client outperforms the Cell client on a client per client basis. I'm not sure how the GPU in the 360 compares to the GPU used for folding, but it is entirely concievable that the 360's GPU could outperform the Cell at folding. Of course, the Cell is much more flexible and has much more work units that it can work on than the GPU client.

Of course Xbox 360 is going to beat the Playstation 3.
