Forums - Politics Discussion - Will Religion ever be illegal in America?

That would be amazing, but no.

Wow ok you must be young to say something this ignorant. Just because a few zealous nuts get the attention in the shitty media doesnt mean having faith in god is bad. Do me favor sit down, read the bible itself, and see if it is bad. You probably wont because of how the nuts in the  media say about it. Educate yourself.

I'm sorry if I was wrong about opposition to gay marriage, but religious groups are the only ones I have seen actively campaigning against it in the media.

I agree that the entire religion shouldn't be blamed for what extermists do, but also no religion = no religious extremists so even though it's not really the religions fault the religion isn't completely innocent in it either.

I don't want to generalise people, I know the vast majority of religious people are a great part of society, however the actions of the very vocal minority are much easier to see than those of the content majority.

Don't trust the media.

You cannot blame religion for being used as a scapegoat. I mean haven't you ever wondered why Christians for example killed people in the Crusades, when the commandments not only expressely forbid killing people but also state that one should love their enemies? Extermist aren't made by the religion they hide behind, thus if you get rid of religion they will simply hide behind something else, it literally solves nothing, but it gets rid of the human right to belief. Just like 9/11 made Americans trade their privacy for security.

Its only harming the innocent.

The answer to that is the same as the answer to whether the USA will become a hardline communist state. Because hardline communist states are the only ones that ban all religion.

So what are the chances of the USA becoming hardline communist? Pretty close to nil I would guess.

Laws that protect freedom of belief. I personally believe, and is more or less scientifically and legally understood to that Athiesm is a belief just like every other religion so a law forcing you to be atheist would be no different then a law forcing you to be Christian. Unless the first amendment evaporates, it won't happen.

In response to OP, Atheism causes conflict too, Agnoticism is the only true neutral, and tolerance is the only way differing opinions can be reconciled. A law that bans religion will cause even more problems.

I disagree. Some 'athiest' people are fanatics just like religious fanatics. But for true athiests it is just a lack of belief not a belief itself.

Semanitc rubbish. To be a true atheist you have to have thought about the concept of god and religion and come to a conclusion that God doesn't exist and that religion is all made up. This perspective is based on assumptions and beliefs when it comes down to it. for instance the belief that things can only be true if there is a way to measure or observe it with the senses or with scientific instrumentation, i.e. nothing exists outside of what is physically observable.

The true atheist is someone who has done a lot of deep thinking about the reality of things. The casual atheist is the one who simplistically thinks it is a case of not believing.

I kinda agree, but there is a particular religion that seems to keep a certain part of the world in the dark ages.

Would that part of the world be better if they suddenly rejected a popular religion in that area? It couldn't be any worse.

They already made my religion illegal. The one where I pay tithes to hookers and fuck them religiously. My followers and I were condemned and persecuted (or is that prosecuted?) by the U.S. government and forced to practice in hiding. The spirit lives on though.

Constant battles with athiest over seperation of Church and State.

Recent wars seem to give Religion a bad name.

Mel Gibson has given it a bad name (See him in Expendables 3 as the bad guy!)

Even Religion itself seems to think that when the end comes, Religious people will be hunted.

Is it coming? Will it be outlawed in the next twenty years?

About the same time they take "in god we trust" off of their money...

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances

If you get rid of that - the 1st amendment of the U.S. Constitution, part of the "Bill of RIghts" - then maybe.  But there is zero chance of that happening.  (It would take a very large majority of states or population to repeal it)

If it were to happen, by any means, I would take up arms in the new Revolution.

Religion is the cancer of the world,

I'm not talking to you.

I'm not social on this website.

Sorry for my english.

Bye.

I'm not talking to you. I'm not social on this website. Sorry.

Jehova Witnesses think that the government will start blaming religion for their problems, so if what they say is true, then yes, religion will be illegal.
