Forums - Politics Discussion - Will Religion ever be illegal in America?

Making 'thoughts' illegal... yeah that should work in America.

No. No. No. You didn't read Revelation correctly, Spurge.

In the end there will be one world religion.

Scientology, right?

Let's hope not.  A world run by Tom Cruise...

Tom Cruise is the anti-Christ?  I knew it!

There's this fascinating documentary called "Jesus Camp", made in 2006 I think. Its basically a horror movie, but actually real. Its a good watch.
Could we at least give religion an age restriction? To stop the brainwashing of little kids?

(The answer is simple, of course we can't... Oh well.)

Is there even a single atheist politician in any major office in all of US? The electorate overwhelmingly prefers religious candidates.

The United States is immensely religious, and according to studies, atheists are the most loathed and mistrusted group -Americans even prefer hard-line muslims over atheists.

So chances of religion becoming illegal in US? 0%

How many of them are actually that religious though?

According to this, quite a few: http://www.nationaljournal.com/politics/for-most-americans-religion-is-the-answer-to-today-s-problems-20140627

Or are you talking about politicians? There are plenty of very extreme fundamentalists in politics.

What is your opinion on the growing hypothesis that we may all be living inside of a super computer? I've seen that some of the leading minds in science have started leaning towards this idea and have begun primitive testing.

Personally, it fascinates me because if something like that were true, and science could actually prove that we were all created by an evolved being inside of a complex set of code, for the first time in human history, science and religion would blend together as one.

my opinion is, if as described, that it is one of the most deplorable ideas ever conceived. to postulate that the universe is some form of computer simulation is absurd in the utmost respect. humans invented the device that is used to run reality? so essentially humans are contingent upon the device that they invented which is contingent upon them. sounds like a circle jerk of stupid.

With all due respect, that is some extremely narrow minded thinking. If Einstein had thought that way... goodness. It sounds to me that you're letting your beliefs or lack thereof, get in the way. In science, nothing is certain until proven otherwise. You can believe something but that doesn't make it so and visa versa.

I believe in the pursuit of truth and knowledge. If that leads us to a creator, then so be it. If it lead us towards the opposite, so be it as well.

? did you even read my comment? your response has absolutely nothing to do with what I said. put down the beer and think a little bit about what I said please. humans invented computers and software. so, how is it possible that reality is a computer simulation? it's barking mad. you clearly do not know much about einstein, his dogmatic fealty to hard determinism hindered his progress when he wasted countless time attempting to resolve heisenberg's uncertainty principle.

I'm open to anything that is justified, you seem to be open to absurdities. I have no respect for that, nor would I care for that person's respect.

It's the theory that there are universes within universes. The idea that a vastly more advanced and evolved life form created life within a computer, and we are that life. Sort of like The Sims or Spore or... other "God simulators" but obviously much more advanced. Naturally, the life evolves within the code and ends up developing their own computers and then the cycle continues.

It's not crazy when you think about it and some of the best minds in science are starting to go in that direction (look it up).

Technically speaking nobody is a true athiest, because being a true atheiest means that you know for a fact that a higher power dne which is in impossible. since it cannot be proven nor unproven.

A deity is only a deity because it is defined as such. Therefore one could be a true athiest by disagreeing with the definition of deity.

Atheism is defined as the rejection of theism, not the definition of diety. However, this rejection is a belief however, rational, that cannot be scientifically proven. Thus, one cannot know, which is why it cannot be true.

Even if Religion is a human construct, it does not means its wrong. Mathematics is a human construct to describe the idea of quantity, its not farfetched for Religion to describe something we don't understand or can't understand.

When will atheism become illegal?

When the US wants to lose a major chunk of it's brightest thinkers.

Fixed.

I guess no coincidence that Christianity and western civilization coincide when it comes to worlds brightest and technological advances

I guess it's also no conincidence that Western society fell behind Arab society when Christianity became the controlling religion in the west. Only when the west became less religious was it able to surpass the still religious Arabs again.

Is this argument about religion or christianity, you can save the trouble yourself and just wipe out all the... and forget that it even happened.

Point is science only functions when their is freedom of beleif, take that away for any reason and you're basically just as bad as the Church when they where in power.

Seriously, blame the people not the what they claim to believe.

There is no indication that religion ever would be. That makes absolutely no sense. People can't even get elected into public office unless they're affiliated with a religion (almost always Christianity). In our country's history, we've had 6 US congressman that are openly atheist.

Wait, are you saying Arab society flourished when it adopted Islam? It is interesting that there seems to be a trend where a prophet finds a major religion, society happens to advance, society starts to decay as the religion becomes less suited to the age, and then another prophet appears to continue the progress.
