Wow. I wonder if this is linked to his comments about the casual stuff at GDC? If they fired him that's pretty harsh.

I think that was due to the comments criticizing the Japanese designer. You got to know who is the boss :P

bad news to hear of his departure. but there is a reason for everything i guess. and who in the world thinks sony is in trouble after this?? that's ridiculous! yes he will be missed, but you're acting like people bought the ps3 because of him! deary me! they'll get a new guy in an sce will have a different/fresh approach to things.

Yeah, because someone quits is the companies fault...

Damn that free will.

Its probably due to him slagging off the Sony mothership during GDC, blaming Sony Japan for the missed casual boat. He never knew when to shut up, about time for a change.

So what your saying is Phil was over his head in saying Nintendo was doing something right, whereas saying Sony was lagging?

In one hand you got the eventual PR spin, in the other the truth.

WOW! He never had a chance.

It's basic customer relations, do not insult your own products. You can praise a compeitor, you can take blame yourself, but you can't blame another part of the company for a failure.

Its really that simple.

Plus his quick move to Atari seems like this was allready planned, he probably wasn't thinking with his Sony head at GDC.

Kaz Hirai has been getting alot of new added jobs lately.....

As for Phil Harrison, oh well, execs come and go for every company. Don't see the big deal.

My first thoughts as well.  I think its plausible but if so it was likely the proverbial "last straw".   And really I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to move on to something else and the comments made at GDC were simply indicative of the difference in direction.  Perhaps he will end up working for NoA since it seems his ideas align quite well with Nintendo's strategy.

Conspiracy Theory:  He made the comments at GDC knowing he was going to be fired soon and hoping it would help him land a job at NoA.

Yeah. With a little time to digest this it seems more likely that something was already brewing. Lone funman faking the moon landing in Dealey Plaza notwithstanding. I blame Wii Fit!

Shaking my head in disbelief. But it really does serve Sony right. They're making a fatal mistake, I geuss its evident that Sony doesnt know whats in best interest to the public and the gamers.

Its about time some one starts sending death threats to Sony HQ. Fucking retards.

Please explain why he is so important. Here in Japan, no one knows him.

Harrison joining Atari is not really a surprise, there was most likely a provision of non-competion in his employment agreement preventing him to joint NoA or MS. I won't be surprised if we hear about NoA buying Atari anytime soon.

Here is epitaph for the goner:

I don't think Ninty'd call upon such a ghoul ever. Hell, even MSFT won't do it.
