Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Has the Wii U become more of a Collector item than a system that people buy to play regularly?

I think people who have recently picked up the system, or will pick up the system, use it as a compliment to their PS4/XBO. I think they'll play exclusives regularly on the Wii U.

One would think by this point, after all the news and considering this is a gaming forum, the only people that would buy a wiiU is to play Nintendo games and nothing else and I play Mario Kart very frequently both with my friends and random whores online so yea... I also play on PC so there is that too but yea, I doubt anyone buys a wiiU just for the sake of owning it and nothing else

I keep hearing people say "Hey! I just bought a Wii U!", but I am not really sure why. I hope that it is because they do not care if a ton of games come out and just want to play Nintendo games.

But at this point, it is not really a system for many. You are not going to get 3-4 games a month like others. After you buy the main games, you could have to wait a while before you get another one.

That is just a few reasons why I think people are just buying it to own it. Add it to their list.

Do you think this is something that is happening now?

I don't know, a lot of gamers that I know don't have so much free time so there is no point in getting more than 2 or 3 games on a month, I am trying to buy less that what I can finish that is currently 2 games per month, adult life responsabilities take a lot of time and I am way above the average gamer in my country.

You buy a game a week? I buy one a month per system at most!

Love and tolerate.

That's a bit stange..?

WiiU has at the moment most AAA titles

For sure PS4 and One Will end up having a more "big" titles than Nintendo.. But that dosen't matter as much as some people will like to think. MK8, Smash, DTF, Mario 2d, Mario maker, splatton and more allready out (soon) games..  will sell very long time

They do that becourse people know the games.. they do not care that they are old.. becourse it's stil the "Mario 3d" MK8" of this generation.. Therefor it's not importent to talk new games when you talk Nintendo and WiiU.. It's all about the hole catalog.. not some games comming 2 years later..

And remember how many games each console sold in avarage last gen.. 9-10 games..

I buy a system to play on it. MK8 came out, I bought a Wii U. It doesn't become a collectable in till the system is obsolete. I always have two game systems. I usually just don't bother with Xbox. Because I have a gaming PC. And don't care for Halo. But i can see were you're coming from. People do buy things for the sake of owning. And then never open it. I've run into people who get a figurine. Then nothing. I understand that, if you buy 2. One sealed, one for display. But buying one and then never touching it. I can't stand that stupidness.

People are buying it because of great exclusive games. Guys like us aren't buying it to have as our one and only system but to play the great games. There aren't very many elite games on the ps4 and xbone and won't be for a while. Right now there's more elite games to play on wiiu.  Most gamers will want access to more games and that's why they are buying more than one system. As a family system it's great because families don't buy that many games. Maybe 2 or 3 a year and Nintendo is better at making high quality family friendly games than anyone.

I don't think so. It's got fun games. Especially at the moment. If they can keep it up it'll get an even better reputation.

Well, I use it enough...

My Wii U is always running when my TV is on thanks to the second screen.
