Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why the Lack of Third Party Support May Be a Blessing

I didn't read your article, but there is no good coming from not having 3rd party support.

Around the Network

It seems because of the flawed third party support for Wii U Nintendo is forced to produce more First & Second party games. And the quality of the games for Wii U is already very high and the outlook for 2014 and 2015 is very good.

The only downside is the lack of a steady software stream in 2014. But starting with Hyrule Warriors in September there will be many interesting games. No later than the end of 2015 the Wii U will have a large library of quality games and almost every type of gamer will have plenty to play. I don't see the same for Xbox One and PS4. The announcements for these console for this and next year are pretty underwhelming.

The real downside is that the console isn't selling. It would sell drastically more if there was any real 3rd party support. Sure we get more Nintendo 1st/2nd party games which is great and all but there is less money in the Nintendo ecosystem as a whole, which further pushes away 3rd parties.

I think Nintendos days as a home console maker with 3rd party support are long gone and this will ultimately be the demise of Nintendo as a hardware maker. The Wii sold a million and 3rd parties didnt try with that console and they have made their choice to edge Nintendo out of the hardware industry.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

It is definitely not a blessing to not have 3rd party support, not at all.....

I don't see any advantage on it. As people said, both MS and Sony consoles have exclusives. You can actually play only on PS and XB during a gen. I think in its current situation, any Wii U owner have to buy a gaming PC, a PS4 or X1 to enjoy all games. Probably a PS4 or X1 because of console exclusives like Destiny, Metal Gear, Red Dead Redemption and all the others.

As much as I enjoy Sony 1st party efforts, a lot of the greatest games I've played last gen were 3rd party efforts: Metal Gear, GTA, Spec Ops, LA Noire, etc. It's not like this two things are complete opposites. The problem in relying on a single company to bring the games is that no company is the absolute best in all genres. Talking about Sony as an example, they have the best racing simulator (GT), the best hack n' slash (GoW) but they don't have a soccer game like Fifa or a fighting game like KoF.

I think most people want to play the same games their friends play. Exclusives are a thing people understand: if my friend plays Halo 5 and I don't, it's OK because you get it only on XB. But if my friend plays BF on XB and I can't play it on Wii U, it's not OK because on PS I would be able to play it too. It's like being the only one out of the party.

Just to add, I think Nintendo is arrogant. They were like that since the NES. 3rd party was trash for them. So, 3rd party studios don't want Nintendo to succeed since they fear that if they are number 1, things will become like they were back them. It's not hate, it's business strategy. 360 gathered all that 3rd party support because they feared that a PS2-like domination would make Sony dictate rules. This gen, both Sony and MS worked with them to deliver their consoles, while Nintendo developed the Wii U as a secret and presented it already closed to 3rd parties. Nintendo can recreate this support if they change their mentality and reach 3rd party publishers to develop a console together. It's not about doing what they want, but about reaching a consensus. You can think about a console as you think about an API: if an API isn't made in a way that devs and companies like, nobody will use. A console is basically an API composed of both hardware and software in a certain way.

Finally catch up here, and all I see is a bunch of "I only read the title and responded", lol...

Ah well, can't really force or expect anything more than that on the internet, I'm learning slowly

How does this thread vary from http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=185791

this one is about pageviews.

And to answer both of you, no, they're different.  That thread talks about regaining 3rd party support, while the article talks about not wasting time trying to get 3rd party support back, and instead using the money to create an even stronger library of exclusives instead.

As I said above, a bunch of responses from title-commenters, haha

I was still correct.

Keep telling yourselves (and more detrimentally 3rd parties) Nintendo doesn't need thired parties, and you will assure Wii U of a very poor generation.

Lack of 3rd party support is part of why Wii U is in the position it's in today. If you like Wii U being in that position then fine. But if you would rather Wii U was in a much better position you should not be actively trying to alienate people who can help improve Wii U's fortunes. Though I suspect it's too late for this generation.

You guys really aren't reading the article... lmao

Title-commenters, title-commenters everywhere!

While I'm here, though, the article is about how Nintendo is instead using the inherent lack of 3rd party support to work on exclusives with 3rd parties rather than trying to "woo" them into coming back on their own.  What better way to get 3rd party support than to work with them on making an exclusive game for your system?

This is why you read the article instead of responding to the threat title, lol
