Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why the Lack of Third Party Support May Be a Blessing

I've been so busy I haven't been able to really participate in the forums as much as I'd like to.  However, I did take some time to write up an article that I hope will spur some discussion!  I also hope it doesn't turn into some sort of flamey discussion, but nonetheless, what do you guys think?

In a way it actually is. Nintendo are bringing in more "mature" games to their consoles. Now, if these games sell decently, it might even bring in the average 3rd party multiplat games which hopefully aren't sad and unoptimized ports from the 360.

I like it.  Now lets wait for the naysers to say something to the contrary.

I'm on the other end.  If 3rd parties walk away, let them stay gone.  Those that have so much opposition to Nintendo's way of business should not be welcomed back with open arms.  Why?  The year is 2014, the information age.  A 3rd party with a bad reputation (bad games, unoptimized games, incomplete games, games lacking dlc but charged more than other multiplats,) towards "N" would be hard pressed to have relevant sales any way as history has shown.

I think it'll hurt nintendo in the long run. Its like Nintendo became a lone wolf. If they have to survive they got to make new IPs and friends.

Why not both ? PS3 is the best example that shows you CAN have à unique library + 3rd party multiplatforms

Ans ps4 Will probably be the same example, unique library from Sony + japan ans multiplatforms games

That shows not getting 3rd party doesnt mâke à console better

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

This hurts my brain...

The XBO. It has 3rd party exclusives. I has 3rd party multi plats. Lack of 3rd party can absolutely never be a good thing. Having less games is NEVER a good thing. That doesn't make Nintendo unique; it makes them flaccid. That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.

Guys, it's not a blessing. There are good things that come out of it for us consumers, like great bundles and sales like MK8's offer for an extra game for free. It may force Nintendo to make sure it's on its A-game and push out more content for the real fans. But none of that compares to true third party parity.

Don't get me wrong; I personally am perfectly happy owning only a Wii U as a current-gen console. I have to make charts and lists to plan and budget my game acquisitions and play queue. Throw my recently acquired 3DS in the mix, and my wallet is getting beat up weekly. But I'm far from representing the average consumer or gamer.

The blessing I see is the fact that it forces Nintendo to make more games, which we all know are usually good (Usually, not always)

I agree with the idea that Nintendo`s money is better spent on exclusives that paying for multiplats. Overall, it`s a reasonable idea. Especially at this time when the usual ports of big 3rtd party titles didn´t really make a lot of money on Wii U.

Nintendo could pay for the ports. Surely that would cost them much less and would fill the library.
But the truth is, that wouldn`t Wii U stand out for the core gamer. They can already get those titles - and the better versions of them - on other consoles.
Getting exclusives might, in the long run, turn Wii U into a seriously attractive console for MS and Sony users: they get the usual 1st party titles and then core games they can`t find anywhere else.
Heck, ZombiU outsold both CoD games on Wii U.

Of course, if Nintendo could get more 3rd party games, that would help too!
