This is a detailed instruction manual on how to connect the SEGA Dreamcast online via BBA (Broadband Adapter) through a private host server in this case Sylverant. First what you'll need is obviously a SEGA Dreamcast, PSO(Phantasy Star Online) Ver. 1 or 2, a BBA(Broadband Adapter), and an ethernet cable. You will also download a boot disc that bypasses Sega's Hunter's License check which was used during the days Sega hosted PSO servers during Seganet or Dreamarena..

Step 1 : First download this cdi image and burn it to a cd-rom disc via imgburn or nero.. The cdi can be found in this link

Step 2: Get your Dreamcast and items prepared, the first image contains PSO. ver 1 & 2 left to right

** The BBA finally installled giving LAN 10/100 mb per sec download speeds great connection for todays online **

Step 3: Next is a crucial setup to the game, first load up PSO and create a character. Enter the CD keys located in the disc case; afterwards head back to the main menu and go to the website link on the main menu, make sure your BBA is connected so the DC will auto detect the online method.. Here is where the next image will detail the correct input methods to get the DC connected successfully to the Sylverant server.

**After this step save and exit back to main menu**

Step 4: Power off the DC and replace PSO disc with the Sylverant PSO patcher cdi image you burned earlier; power on the Dreacmast and you will be prompted with this image.

**Where it says insert a gd-rom that means insert a Dreamcast game in this case PSO**

**After inserting the PSO disc it will do a boot check and give you a few options, I just select option A**

Step 5: The finale, after the game loads up.. Select continue or new game and when prompted to connect online or offline select online.. You will have to read a few disclaimers and you will connect online shortly. Select the ship you wish to connect to, each ship is a different server host such a PSO Palace or Sylverant..

Seems a lot easier than hacking a Wii.

I've never hacked a Wii, but from what I know the Dreamcast is the easiest hacked console.. There are devs now still making new games for it since it's so easy to work with. Pirating was one of Sega's major issues leading to Dreamcast's demise besides the PS2. You can pretty much get access to any game you want and simply burn it to a cd and boom you got a new Dreamcast game for free. The thing with this PSO online is it's hard to connect online, bcuz of a few reaons. One these BBA are very rare and hard to find since only a few thousand were made, second if you find one it is easily over $100-200 since people jack up the prices. I got mine brand new in the box for $130.00 from a very professional seller.. If you can't get a BBA there are ways where you can get the dial up 56k modem to connect online from a PC-DC server,but that is complicated for me so I went the more simplistic way, plus I've wanted a BBA since I saw it at bestbuy during Dreamcast's discontinuation.. It was $50.00 at the time lol, I asked my dad for it and he said nope LOL.. I ended up getting it last year 12 years later lol

Well the Wii is increidlby easy to hack. But yeah this looks easy, except it's expensive...By the way I always wanted to try the PSO games, I imagine they don't play like the original ones right? Are they as good as they make them out to be?

Ohh yes this is super easy to do, people have entire collections of classic (NES,SNES, N64) Nintendo and (Master System, Genesis )Sega games burned onto discs, they even have Bleemcast which has PS one games playable for DC... It's hilarious, but on the point of PSO tbo I've played a little of the Genesis versions and those are more final fantasy style games, these new PSO's are MMO which make them incredibly fun.. Yes my friend they are very very fun, I love pso and my experience is not as deep as other players when it comes to PSO as a series. You have a guild card and you can excahnge them with other players adding them to your friends list, you can play quests together, battle quests, trade items-sell items, chat and mingle in the lobbies.. Pretty much what every MMO do nowadays.. I really wanted to play the new PSO2 for PC and Ps Vita, but Sega hasn't localized them to the western audience yet so I went on a mission to play PSO on DC until then XP

Ohh yes I can definately agree, I got that nostalgic feeling like a kid again when I received my BBA.. You learn to appreciate those rare moments as a kid and cherish the chance you get when you take it into your own power to get what you always wanted.. Great question my friend =)

If you're going to play "classic" PSO (not PSO2), you might as well get BlueBurst. It's apparently free or super discounted or something. An old high school buddy that i used to play PSO with was telling me about it.
