For that price range, SONY and Samsung are the best brands, with SONY edging out Samsung slightly due to being better for gaming in general.
SONY also has it's Triluminos technology in their higher end models. What size TV are you looking to get?

I have had 3 Samsung TVs. All work great. Sony is good too. I've been gaming on Samsung TVs for about 5 years now. Haven't had any problems.
Edit: I would recommend getting an LED TV.
I've been using Samsung for gaming for the past 4 years and I don't have any complaints. I bought this one this past Christmas and it's amazing. 1080p, LED, 240 Hz, 3D (I don't use the 3D, but you might like it),

You should congratulate me. I destroyed the vile red falcon and saved the universe. I consider myself a hero.
1080p LED all the way. More affordable than OLED by far, and not much quality difference.
Sony, Samsung, and LG tend to be the best, but Vizio is actually pretty respectable in the LED market. You can get a 3D, 42" 1080p smart TV from them for less than $500, which is a steal (or at least I did. I have a 52 in. Sony TV, and purchased a 42 in. Vizio recently).
You're Gonna Carry That Weight.
Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC
Uhhhhh, spend the $500 on a Vizio, and put like another $1500 into a sweet sound system. Put the remaining $1000 away, and upgrade tvs in 3-4 years when this above and beyond technology is relevant (and the $1000 tv 3-4 years from now will probably smoke the visuals of the $3000 tv now).
Oh, and if you need "smart" options, and the cheaper Vizio choice doesn't have it...get a $35 Chrome adapter.
Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.
LED or OLED, 1080p, minimum 200 Hz (better 400), 3D not a must, preferably above 46 inches, preferably a Samsung.

If you can get some more money OLED will be the best no doubt, although the technology is young, so I would wait for another generation anyway for them to iron out the early issues.
I wouldn't bother with 4K yet, unless it just happens to be in a TV you want, there is simply very little native resolution content, and it doesn't look like it's gonna dramatically change soon.
I would go for a LED TV. Currently for gaming I would say the latest generation of Sony Bravia W8 is the best, exceeds others in very important input lag and has great picture quality. If not that one, keep checking which set has good (low) input lag, black levels, dimming solutions etc. With 3k$ you can't really go wrong with Sony, Panasonic or Samsung TVs, they simply don't go below some level of quality for that price.
As for the size, it depends on what space you have, I'm yet to meet someone who complains that their TV is too big.
So it is happening...PS4 preorder.
Greatness Awaits!
60 incher 1080p LED Tv from Samsung, LG or Sony should do the trick + had a ps4 or X1 to turn your tv ''smart'' and use the rest on some high quality cocaine
Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

It depends on what you want. You're also talking about different features on your list. Also, I wouldn't spend more than 1,500 on a tv honestly.
Here are the main types of TVs though.
Basically. LCD, LED, IPS, and Plasma are the main ways for backlighting a monitor, and how the display works. Plasma is kind of pointless at this point, so don't go with that.
LCD, Is old and outdated. Don't go with that.
LED and IPS are the two main contenders. My brother's IPS has amazing colors and viewing angle. I'm not sure if they make tvs though. I've only seen IPS monitors at least. So, I would go with LED or IPS.
For resolution, it depends on what you're doing. If it's just viewing tv. Maybe go for a 1080p smart tv. You can do 4k if you want, the only problem is that games are basically the only thing to actually use 4k at this point.
If you have a nice high end GPU, and you want this for gaming, I'd recommend the new samsung 28" 4k monitor. I just got it a few weeks ago, and I'm very happy with my purchase. Also, 4K is approximately 4 times the resolution of 1080p.
