you never can be sure 100%. Sometimes its just 1 hype or 1 game that can change everything. Remember the gameboy? Bad sales, but then boom pokemon arrived.

Okay fair enough 95% but even with such a game announced this E3 I couldn't see the Wii U climbing above 30million. Yes that's me including a pokemon open world game. The Xone I suspect to hit the 50 million mark eventually. 

Pokemon has done its part, but it wasn't the only reason for the better GameBoy sales.

The GameBoy Pocket was a lot less clunky and heavy (the handheld got more portable) and didn't drain the batteries as fast. And in 1998 followed the GameBoy Color, which was the first model that interested me. The addition of colors was a huge graphical leap.

Haha! People actually thought this at one point?

I admit full-stop that I thought this was a possibility back in June 2014. Don't forget that Mario Kart 8 had just released and the Wii U was outselling XOne week-on-week for pretty much that whole month. The Xbox One also had been on the market about 1/3 as long as the Wii U and it's sales were way behind in absolute numbers.

Obviously, this was wishful thinking on the part of us Nintendo fans. The XOne is mopping the floor with the Wii U and could possibly even outsell the 3DS depending on how long the generation lasts.

That was a very optimistic Wii U prediction,  and it wasn't as it the writing wasn't on the wall!
