Forums - Sales Discussion - PREDICTION: WII U WILL SELL MORE THAN XBOX ONE

Do you think this will happen?

yes 784 58.77%

no 548 41.08%

Total:1,332

Nope. When 3rd parties start making next gen exclusives, the Wii U won't stand a chance.

I think people just need to compare what has been released on each system so far, what prices the systems are being sold at and what thats achieved in terms of sales at the moment.

The Xbox hasn't had one major exclusive yet but its selling pretty much at the same levels of the Wii U...
The Xbox also hasn't had a real price cut that cut deeps into their pockets, so they have more room to manouever.

The WiiU's sales lead is still pretty sizable at the moment, however I'm thinking that the Xbox One will pass it during the 2015 holiday season. It will be close though.

/first post ever!

LOL nope. Wii U is tracking FAR behind the Gamecube, which only sold ~22 million units, and Wii U will end up with less than that. Logically, that would mean the Xbox One would also sell less than ~22 million units according to your prediction.

That's impossible, even if you think it's doomed. Even the Original Xbox outsold Gamecube with ~24 million units sold, and that was with 5 years of sales. Microsoft will push the One for longer than that, will have actual 3rd-party support, and has a bigger fan base to sell to compared to when MS were just starting out.

By the end of 2014, Xbox One will pass Wii U and will stay ahead. 2014 will be the peak year of sales for the Wii U with MK and Smash. If Nintendo is lucky, 2015 might even be flat in terms of sales because of Zelda/later Smash sales, but after that, sales will drop like a rock as PS4 and Xbox One hit/start to hit their peaks.

This isn't Wii U's peak year. It's more likely that Wii U will have a peak year of 2015 and 2016 will be even with 2014. 2015 has more games coming than 2014 so its average sales per week will be higher. 2 big games aren't going to beat a steady stream of more than 5 great games like Zelda, Star Fox, Splatoon, and more. 2014 had a terrible start. It's really from here on out that Wii U will have at least some what decent weekly sales. Don't think it will drop below 50k that much anymore. XB1 dropped to 37k after Watch Dogs. Wii U only dropped to 86k after MK8 which isn't dreadful. If Wii U dropped from 136k to lets say 50k, yes i'd say XB1 has a really good chance. But not anymore. I guess we'll really get a better get a better look at this when we get all of June's numbers... then we can really see if MK8 boosted Wii U. For awhile now, XB1 has shown no signs to catching the Wii U by the end of the year as you say. It's still more than 1.5m behind Wii U. Anyways..... let's come back to this in about a month... then we'll get a better look.

Well it's the beggining of August. Said I would come back around end of June but waited a little longer. And damn look at that. Wii U is still ahead of Xbox One weekly. Has a steady baseline of 60k. And about GameCube being ahead. The Wii U will have better legs. The GameCube had a peak of 2003, small drop in 2004 and a steep fall in sales 2005-2007. Wii U will have a gradual steady fall instead of a quick sharp fall. Wii U will catch up to the GameCube probably by 2016.

Don't think that will happen. However I do believe the WiiU will go on to outsell the GC. My reason for thinking this is my experience at Gamestop and MK8. A lot of people have been coming asking about the WiiU since MK8 released and when I explain that the WiiU works with all their Wii stuff they usually come back in with their Wii and upgrade. Plus parents like the idea that the games play on the gamepad without a TV as well (Most do anyways).

After the One releases in all the other territories we will know if the WiiU has a chance at outselling the One as well as this holiday season Sony not having as many titles releasing it may give the One an edge to start out pacing it.

Make it So.

I think its gonna be a close tie like 6th gen

If you say PS4 will win then I would agree, that's got the highest probability of happening.
Saying either the Xbox One or WiiU will claim second place is just too early to call, both consoles have the potential to take second place.

?

They already are and have been for a while yet X1 is still getting outsold :/ 3rd parties as things go are only helping Sony push numbers.

at least this year i don't see Xone surpassing WiiU,i'll give you that!

What 3rd party exclusives are you refering to? The only thing that comes to mind is UFC which is niche anyway.

Im talking about big games Like Assassins Creed Unity, Witcher 3, Batman, Evolve, Mirrors Edge, Mass Effect 4, Starwars Battlefront etc.
