Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony: Expect fewer AAA Games

Sony’s Yoshida was asked about a number of things during E3 that was overshadowed due to everything else going on in the news at the time.  One of the more interesting points brought up was in reference to promised features that were announced in February for the PS4, that have so far remained elusive on the console.  Yoshida also commented on the lack of AAA games coming to the PS4 this fall.

He didnt say to expect less AAAs and he didnt mention first parties either hes talking about AAAs in general and he is right they are getting less frequent and way more expensive.

Sony can't keep up with the cost of development for a system that was out of date the minute it released?

Yes but he said that the number of AAAs is getting smaller.

If this is is referring to all the E3 interviews; he was referring about the VITA and not PS4.  I am really sure this is taken out of context.

Good imo. Focus on quality not quantity. Most AAA games released nowadays are of higher quality and usually have positive reviews. Companies are doubling down on successful IPs and giving them the time and polish they need.

In addition, AAA games are much bigger than previous years past. DLC + multiplayer content keep people interested in AAA games for a far longer time than just a week or two. With Sony and MS removing fees to update games this will also help.

It's not surprising with costs getting higher and higher. Near the end of the PS3 era they were release like 8 major exclusives per year, and most of them ended up failing. Now they're going the Microsoft route of a release a few exclusives per year but giving each one major attention. Indie titles will fill in the gaps between major releases. Seems like a smart strategy to me.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Seriously, we're resorting to posting anti-Sony propaganda now?

Yeah, so he is kinda hinting that there will be fewer AAA games for the PS4.
