Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Ubisoft CEO: “Nintendo has to perform this year, otherwise they will have less games”

Not showing any footage of Watch_dogs Wii U or gamepad features isn't helping your own game to sell on the console. If you are going to invest in games, at least make a decent effort to show due cause for the fanbase to get excited for your software. It doesn't cost millions to make a trailer.

Anyway, this is business and they have every right to not invest in the Wii u ,if it doesn't make them money. The onis is on Nintendo right now to make the wii u a viable console to invest in.

I don't buy third party games on Wii U because the games they put out are crap compared to the level of polish and playability Nintendo gives me. Assassin's Creed has a terrible frame rate compared to my PC. Need for Speed was awesome, Rayman was awesome, Mass Effect, Deus Ex, even Sonic are pretty good games. But other than those, everything has been gimped or treated like a second class commodity. FIFA was AWFUL. And of course EA used that BS to justify no more FIFA games. I AM THEIR TARGET MARKET AND THEY REFUSE TO SATISFY ME. Every year, I buy on PC and last year made me mad they didn't put Ignite into the PC release. Finally, they got it right with FIFA 15. But it's that kind of crap that makes me avoid third parties. Nintendo keeps proving that games can ship, complete, with no big patches or DLC required. Even the size of Nintendo games is much smaller than more system-intensive games.

I own 17 retail Wii U games, and much more downloaded eShop titles. I play PC games a lot, because we PC guys get the best versions of games most of the time. MOST of the time, not always. Why would I buy AC IV on Wii U when I get the better running version for less on Steam? That's a value proposition that Ubisoft needs to sort out, not Nintendo. Those who buy the games on Xbox and PS don't have gaming PCs.

Well, in that case, screw you, Ubisoft!

yeah no, thats not shovelware. YOu dont even know what shovelware is LMAO. Oh and i never said all consoles didnt have shovelware. FPS arent shovelware, Sports games arent shovelware. You cant make up your own defintion

I didn't know there was a term worse than shovelware?

There are a lot of bad games on the PS3/XBOX360 that only reviewed well because they were obviously bought. There's no way in hell that FIFA 14 gets a 87% on metacritic when DKC: TF gets slammed by those same reviewers for being the same thing as its predecessor.

How on earth a game like Titanfall scores 86% on metacritic is beyond me... I bet Splatoon will score a lot lower.

Just because YOU don't like those games doesn't make them instantly paid reviews, I don't like those games either but I can see why they reviewed higher than a 30 year old franchise.

I can hardly believe that the CEO of such a big company says a nonsense (not to say bs) like this!

Everybody keeps says that the Wii U must increase its install base to make it worth releasing new games to the system, and at the same time keep up creating these games to the XB1. The WiiU install base is presently about 50% higher that that of the XB1, and analysing things clearly, it wil remain bigger for at least the next 1 year, or even maybe forever as hardcore gamers keep prefering the PS4 and MS has already cut the prices, released Titanfall and droped off the Kinect - so now only Halo can help it and I bet it won't be enough...

Else than that, and as everybody knows, games like WatchDogs, AC and adventures like this, they sell well for one month, two maybe, and them drop heavely to way lower levels, so saying that they're releasing games now for the XB1 instead of the WiiU 'cos in the future the believe that XB1 will have a bigger install base makes basically nonsense at all! (how much percent of the gamers would buy AC IV now instead of WatchDogs? And WatchDogs in the future against whatever the release later on the year? I'm sure you guys got my point.    But Ubisoft's headmaster appearently didn't...)

"if watchdogs was released for wii u at the same time as the other versions and advertised what the wii u gamepad brought to the gameplay do you not think it would have a better chance at higher sales because it was advertised the advantages that the wii u could provide"

Sure, why not?

Else, if some games sell less on the WiiU, a good part of it is also due to very poor quality ports they sometimes make, either with worse graphs (and they have no excuse for that, 'cos to the games being released WiiU still has enough horsepower), either they make no decent use of WiiU's advantages, like the GamepPad sreen and gyroscope and even the free online gaming.

I notice very little difference.  At E3 showings they often enable PC settings that are incredibly taxing so people walk away wowed.  This is life.

They possibly delayed Rayman on the Wii U so that a) They could divert resources towards finishing the other platform's versions sooner, and b) so that they can advertise for all platforms at once (Thus saving money).  Again it is a business.

That makes no sense when the creator even said the Wii U version was as good as done and ready for release, there was no reason to sit on it.

Did you read my advertising reason?  When Max Payne 3 came out on PC a month after it did on console, R* powered up the marketing department again.  If they had released them all at the same time, it would have saved some marketing costs.

Do you expect Ubisoft to advertise the Wii U version of Watch Dogs when (/if) it is released?

I gauruntee they do some.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

[Prediction Made 6/18/2014]

If your talking just unit sales then yes the PS3 did better than Wii U in the first 18 months, however when it comes to money made well...... we know how that worked out for Sony.

Why would Ubisoft base their decisions on where to put software on money made by the platform holder?  Unless they thought there was a risk of PS3 production stopping it didn't really matter to their business.  The Wii made Nintendo a lot more money than the PS2 made Sony, but that didn't stop third parties from selling hundreds of millions more software on the PS2.

That's not what I meant. I was just pointing out that Sony lost way more money than Nintendo did in the 18 months  of PS3 vs. the first 18 months of Wii U.

They're basically demanding a price drop.

As they should. A $199.99 Wii-U at this point would be like sprinkling magic pixie dust on the thing.

That would also sell the console at a loss again. Wait until the console is selling at a greater profit for this wish. $249.99 is more reasonable of a drop, but 100 off is rediculous, hell just buy a refurb from Nintendo with the same warrenty for 200 if you are that cheap

Every Nintendo console with the exception of Wii was $199.99 or less. It's not really that crazy. Yamauchi believed that a software was useless unless you have consoles to play it on. This is why Nintendo use to price their consoles so low. Iwata comes in, screws the pooch on the 3DS and Wii-U price points, and bam...insta slump.

Nintendo needs to keep prices in the sub $200.00 imo.
