Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Wind Waker the most under-appreciated Zelda game?

So I've been playing through Wind Waker on the WiiU after not touching the game for many years, and I have to say it holds up amazingly well. Compared to Ocarina which in my opinion feels a bit dated, Wind Waker plays and looks gorgeous. Even without the HD treatment the whole cel-shaded style looks good to this day. I never understood why so many people hated it.

The other major complaint was about the sailing taking so long, and again I never minded that. It helped make the world feel big, and there wasusually some cool stuff between trips. Looking for treasure, getting attacked by monsters, finding an interesting locale, I never got bored with the long trips. I also love how Link actually has a personality in this game, he feels like a real character rather than just a blank slate like most Zeldas. Playing through it again I think it just might be my favorite in the series.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

It's mine for those very reasons.

Maybe when it released, but now it is either Zelda 1/2 or Skyward Sword...WW has gotten a lot of praise and recognition over the years, it just got off to a slow start.

At it's reveal and initial release people hated it. But, you could say Wind Waker is overrated at this point.

It was but not anymore just like the big lebowski in the 90s.

funny that you mention ocarina and you have Uncharted in you sig I was just thinking to make a thread about how badly uncharted 1 aged.

We are at the point in the Zelda cycle where everyone loves Wind Waker. It's Skyward Sword's turn now.

The Adventure of Link is far more under-appreciated than WW, which has thankfully earned the love it deserved throughouth these years.

Lots of people appreciate Wind Waker. Zelda 2 and Minish Cap are the under-appreciated entries.

I suggest not, people think its just flamebait.

But ignoring all factors of Uncharted, its a big problem with all "photo realistic" games.  They all age horribly.  No matter how great someone thinks even Uncharted 4 looks right now, in 10 years looking back we will probably see it as having aged HORRIBLY, yet Wind Waker will still hold up.

I absolutely agree it was a bad idea.
