Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I hate to say it, but Starfox Wii U sounds like the next Lair

The helicopter idea sounded kinda cool I guess. It sounds like this is going to be episodic though, so some episodes will have different game play ideas ... which isn't as bad, there should be a good number of traditional Star Fox missions in there too.

Wow so without ever having seen a second of ingame footage we already assume its shit?

Whats wrong with you people?

Read the article; the controls described in it sound beyond awful.

I have read it, and I can´t really imagine how it might control. And who know what the final control sheme will be. The game is probably about 16 months off, and tell me what Nintendo game controlled bad or wasn´t fun. I mean Even Wii Sports was a to of fun

Again, even if it is, it does not matter. Nintendo does not release shit games. They'd rather cancel them. Even their worse games like Other M (for example) aren't bad games, just not that great either. When it comes to controls Nintendo especially doesn't miss out. I often see people complaining about Skyward Sword's controls, but I thought they were the most unique and interesting part of the game. They were some of the most intuitive  and fun uses of motion controls I've experienced (I am a fan of motion controls.) The problem I had with Skyward Swords was its linearity and tiny (feeling) world. But even then, it was a great game. Starfox will be good at the very least, and Nintendo will likely get the controls right, either by perfecting the methods mentioned in the OP with valuable gameplay experiences or allowing multiple methods.

I agree.

Have you read the article? I'd say there's good reason to be worried.

Worried? Why?! This game wasn't even supposed to be shown at E3, but Miyamoto was apparently happy with it so they showed it!

Because the controls they describe sound horribly awkward and just plain unnecessary.

I know that not having people turning Nintendo into a soap opera is a bit weird due to how badly they steamrolled everyone at E3, but this is REALLY reaching. It sounds like a Kid Icarus thing; an unconventional control scheme, but once you acclimate to it then it's indispensable.

Most Wii games with forced motion controls were no fun to play, especially Donkey Kong Country returns got totally ruined by the stupid shaking and in Mariokart, precise controls were impossible when using the wheel.

Nintendo should drop the tablet instead of forcing people to use it because this kills all the fun. And the fun is killed, it is neither worth buying nor playing the game. The Wii-U sells so badly for a reason.

They totally are going to do the gun turret idea from Star Wars, where one person controls the ship and the other one moves the tablet pad around shooting enemies.

Strongly disagree with you there, shaking to smash up barrels and bosses in DKCR was satisfying in a way conventional controls could never hope to be, and rolling never bothered me.

I also heard Nintendo is looking for a third party developer (Looking at you Kamiya) to help finish this game. So I think there is a lot more to this game than what meets the eye.

"I think it will be the HDS"-Me in regards to Nintendo's next handheld.

...seriously?

Aiming with the Gamepad gyro while steering with the control stick, and holding the pad up to look at both screens at once? Sounds awkward as fuck.

I actually sat down and tried it with my Gamepad and it was both uncomfortable on the hands and annoying on the eyes. (Don't know about you, but my eyes only have one focal depth, can't look at a screen half a meter away and one two meters away simultaneously)

It seems like Miyamoto is so obsessed with trying to find "novel" ways to use the Gamepad that actual convenience and good design has been forgotten. Look at his Project Giant Robot for example, it shows the same painful awkwardness in the name of being "unique".

At this point it sounds like the whole game will be a Gamepad tech demo, like a Starfox-themed Nintendoland.

I never thought I'd say this, but Miyamoto has become more of a liability than an asset to Nintendo.

Time for him to retire.

So based on impressions in Time Magazine of a game you haven't played that is in very early production stages you have determined not only that the game will be terrible, but that Shigeru Miyamoto no longer has anything to contribute to the company and needs to retire.  Wow.

At the risk of a ban, there is no way I can think of to describe this post than pure idiocy.  A prime example of the ridiculous overreaction that characterizes the internet.
