Lack of Mario? There was that Mario VS Donkey Kong eShop game!

And Mario Maker! The E3 for Nintendo was filled with Mario, even in Smash!

There was also Mario Party 10! See? Reggie is such a damn liar! >:(

Well, I forgot about that one. Basically the whole show was only about Mario.

I watched the gameplay and I got bored after a few minutes, basically they just show absolutely everything of you can do in just a few minutes, very repetitive.

That's not true, for one thing.  The other thing is that with an explanation like that, I would say that would make pretty much every single shooter fall into that category as well.  What can you do in shooters?  "Stand, move, crouch, sprint, stab, shoot, throw, 'special,' maybe drive."  How much further does it go than that?  Pretty much nowhere.  Your observation of the game is inherently flawed because the variety isn't in what you can do, but how it's implemented into the competitive scene.  It would be different if this were something like an RPG or a life simulation game where variety is key.

The reason so many franchises of Nintendo continue to sell is because they are used sparingly. Nintendo has put out a lot of mainline and s few spin off Mario games in the past five years. I think they may be alarmed at how games like SM3DW and NSMBU sell decently, but not gangbusters, suggests some burnout.

in short, smart to make a new IP. Every IP was new once, and companies need to have a range of IPs to fall back on.

i tend to enjoy class based shooter the best though so that may be part of it.

During the Treehouse Live @E3, one of the guys asked about how you get to use the different weapons that will be in the game, and he confirmed that you pick your weapon before the battle starts.  Which means that there actually will be that kind of thing in the game.

Also, regarding customization with the characters, they are thinking about it.

Though there's still a lot we don't know and a lot can still change between now and its release.  I personally will be looking out for whatever changes they might make.

No, better stay this way. Hopefully sells enough to encourage Nintendo to keep doing more new IP's. One day they will come with a similar Banjo game and other similar to Mass Effect.

I'm actually thankful that Nintendo didn't make it into a Mario game. The concept on its enough to warrant being a different IP. It would be a bit random to see Mario turning into a squid halfway through a match.

Firstly they would totally use Bloopers, secondly How? O_O

Mario makes a living off of transformations

No it doesn't need Mario, Nintendo can easily make this their answer for lack of shooters on their console if they advertise the absolute crap out of this.

Yeah paint guns is really gonna being in that CoD fanbase. Hardcore action.

#1 it has the elements for an online shooter game
#2 Codename S.T.E.A.M is also a type of shooter

Also, this is about having a variety of game types and putting Nintendo's own take on these genres instead of just copying what everyone else is doing.

I mean, it isn't stupid that is isn't a Mario game, but the squids look stupid. As shallow as it is, many people won't be interested in this game because it looks stupid.

Sounds to me like they are not confident in making a serious, gritty action/shooter or they don't have the team for it. Japanese gaming is much different than western which I can only assume that's the reason why. Hey. im all for variety on the Wii U, props to Nintendo for going for a new IP but this will not motivate shooting fans to go for a Wii U. If anything, it will be ridicule for it but that's just my opinion.

I'm not much of a shooter fan, I'm an RPG kind of guy.
