Its better for nintendo gamers, but has less of a reach and less of a non gaming media journalism coverage, so isn't that good overall for nintendo

Well, I only watched the digital event. But the rest sounds like the coverages from sites like IGN and Gamestrailer every year. They provide more info and gameplay through live streams.

I agree! The Robot Chicken stuff was also pure gold! Hope they do something like that next year as well!

Now I don't agree with that. Robot Chicken is direly unfunny.

I agree.  Robot Chicken was never funny, it never made me laugh genuinely.  But to counter, Robot Chicken was meant to be a nostaglic fluffer.  Seth Green wanted to make you laugh, but it has more to do with seeing past TV, Game, Movie and other media creations doing things they've never done under their individual shows.

I will say this is a great thing Nintendo is doing just to expand their media presence.  Think about it, after Nintendo's first stint in media outside of games, they were kind of burned.  For instance the Super Mario movie, "Well excuse me, Princess", Captain N and the Game master.  I'm sure some of you will see those past stints as...fun, childhood memories, but from an outsider view, they were aweful.  Flash forward to from 98 to 2009, their foray into Nintendo in other media has been non-existant, except for maybe Donkey Kong Country, Kirby Right back At ya, F-zero anime, but otherwise scarce.  It seemed as if Nintendo shun anything outside their own direct media stream.

Look at today.  Nintendo announced their E3 event with the help of Mega64, a web group that has in the past and in present since their collaberation with Nintendo, have openly criticized and made fun of Nintendo.  Hell, I remember one of their episodes with Bayonetta 2 being announced exclusively for Wii U and they all decided on a suicide pact because of it.  For Nintendo to reach out to them and ask them to help announce their showing for E3, that's something Nintendo of the past would have not done.  Now, they do something with Robot Chicken that not only hypes them, but its actually satirizing themselves, IE nerd fan asking about Star Fox game.

I sort of agree with the OP.  I don't think the Web E3 has been that great, but it seems to be culminating into something more grand in the near future.  Nintendo seems to be coming out of its shell and are doing things a little differently from past Nintendo events and with Nintendo Directs spread out throughout the year, it feels like mini E3s all year round.

Bold prediction:  Within the next 3 years, Sony and Microsoft E3 digital Events soon to be announce.  Yeah, another Me 2 strategy.
