Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo is too afraid of making a mature game

Nintendo machines are for kids. Everybody knows that.

You know what, OP could have actually made a decent point had he not written it in such a awful flamebait way. Nintendo does avoid M-rated games more than their competitors in an attempt to keep their wholesome family-friendly image. The only M-rated games I've seen them publish are made by 3rd parties like Eternal Darkness or Devil's Third. Their internal studios avoid those kinds of games like the plague.

One of the most successful 'mature' games ever on a Nintendo platform had to be Turok : Dinosaur Hunter made by Iguana Entertainment -- which pretty much became Retro Studios(Most of the original staff from Retro came from Iguana).

I'd really like to see Nintendo go out, buy back that IP, and make something awesome with it. Even if Retro weren't the ones to do the reboot. It'd be an awesome chance for them to carve out their own space in the 'mature' / FPS / action market with something that's  different from a modern military sim or shoot-all-these-aliens type game.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

I don't see how the OP's opinion is any worse than comments about shooter games or generally games that are not on wiiu. Calling shooters "generic", "gray" etc is just as ignorant as calling all Ninty games "kiddie". Same with saying that only Ninty innovates or that games that are not on ninty consoles are all about bewbs, sex, violence etc.

I take it some of you haven't experienced games like Beyond, Heavy Rain and the Last of Us. Incredible experiences that have nothing to do with the things that quite a few people mentioned on this thread.

Yet the OP is the only one being moderated? I'm confused. How is all this hatred (and ignorance) for shooters allowed but not the OP's criticism (and maybe ignorance) on ninty games? I know criticism of the mods is not allowed, but I still find it puzzling. Either shit talking games and genres is not allowed for everyone or it's completely allowed. The rules suggest that it should be the former.

Also, I think the OP has a point. Maybe not phrased in the best way possible, but still. Ninty has a family friendly image and in their efforts to maintain it, they seem to be pushing away people who care about their own image and want to buy a "cool" console. Unfortunately for Ninty, the wiiu is not perceived as cool by teenagers or adults in their early 20's, who represent a significant part of the gaming community. I believe that if Ninty does not start evolving some time soon, their presence in gaming will become less and less important with each passing year.

I could be wrong, of course, but the way I see it people's love for their franchises blinds them in terms of the business aspect of gaming.

This.

Why do the nintendo fans get a free pass on trolling but when someone says similar things about nintendo, he is banned instantly. What is this.

I remember an incident in which, i beleive Ethomaz posted a gif of Knack dancing in celebration of outselling Mario 3D world for a specific week, some Nintendo fan mentioned the game was Mediocre and crappy, shared some insulting words aswell and guess who got moderated, Ethomaz for posting the gif  even though it was Sony discussion, just let it go bro. Every site has its bias, I am sure if i mentioned anything pro-nintendo or Sony on MisterX site i would be banned easily. Neogaf would give me a headshot if i went pro-xbox in an  argument with Playstation Gamers. Freedom of speech is something most people want, but gaming sites do have moderation, and the mods are the ones who decide whats fair and whats right.

I think he meant a GOOD mature game.

And I think your wrong. Please tell me what part of his post makes you think he talks about a GOOD mature game.

You know, I was about to show you right where he said it, in vivid detail but I'm not crazy about your attitude. I don't think I want to anymore.

Nice way to hide the fact that you can't back up your comments.

I dunno.  Last two FPS games I played were Borderlands 2 and BioShock Infinite.  Both were really good.  Are there a lot of clones?  Who cares, really?  Did all the platforming clones when that was the dominant genre make people shy away from Mario?

Regardless, the suggestion that M-rated automatically equates to "grey shooter" is a false argument.  It's especially silly considering how many Nintendo fans are excited for Bayonetta 2, which is also M-rated.

Quite honestly, I don't really care if Nintendo brings more diversity to their home consoles.  I think they could do nicely by remaining niche, though that always makes it hard to maintain your fanbase over long periods of time.  However, if they're ever going to be at the top again, they will have to appeal to more people.  That's just the way it is.

I personally think Nintendo produces enough genres for me.

With Wii you have

RTS - Battalion Wars 2

TBS - Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Racing - Excite Truck, Mario Kart Wii, Excitebots: Trick Racing

Simulation - Animal Crossing: City Folk

Sports - Wii Sports, Mario Strikers Charged, Punch-Out!!, Mario Sports Mix

FPS - Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Rail Shooter - Sin & Punishment: Star Successor

Fighting - Super Smash Bros. Brawl

RPG - Xenoblade Chronicles, Super Paper Mario

2D/3D Platformers - no need to mention

Mini games - no need to mention

Some of these games were co developed but all were published by Nintendo.  They have to offer as much variety in their genres as possible because they have to pick up the slack of the lack of third party games.

all this games are great and are what defines nintendo. ( you missed zelda :( )

but remember there was a time we had perfect dark and goldeneye,  2 awesome FPS. and with them, nintendo was still nintendo.

Yeah I'm not quite sure why this thread wasn't locked earlier...

Probably best to rectify that mistake now.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Devils Third is a poor excuse for a mature game, it looks mediocre all around. Mature doesn't mean gore and swear words, it means The Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite. It doesn't mean Bulletstrom, it means Metro Last Light,
