It is a cash grab, but it's the best kind of cash grab, lol. If you don't like it there's no one holding a gun to your head I guess.

Dont think anyone would have an issue with Sony or Microsoft doing it. Those who like it will buy it, those who don't can ignore it. It's been working fine that way since Skylanders was released 3 years ago. |
Believe me ppl would have a problem, first argument youd see thrown arround is how ppl wouldnt be getting the full game experience by paying the 60$ for the game (wich I think is a dumb argument even for most DLCs but ppl would make it anyway). Anyway this thing could work, I dont see the point on a Amiibo tough.
PDF said: I don't really get it. I get why kids like skylanders and Disney Infinity but you already have Mario unlocked in Smash. Why would anyone want his amiibo? I understand it can be potentially used for other games, but I need to see actual software designed for it. |
because amiibos are like pokeballs, i can go to a friendshouse and show em to him...
well. like pokeballs is right, u dont buy the content, u buy a npc charakter u can train and take to a friend.
and the best is, its not just for smash, but for a lot of games, and we know nintendo, this will stay around for a long time.
I think something everyone here has missed is the chip inside the amiibo figures. They let you send data back to the figures! That means that you could fight in Smash, and record your stats - wins, losses, etc, and maybe even customise certain stats , then pop the data back to the figure, and take it round to a friends house for Smash battles.
"Want to play Smash? Are you picking Mario?
"No, I'm using *my* Mario... Pulls out figure and puts it on pad.
It's like having a memory card with your own personal fighter on it, but so much more imaginative. It's gonna be a big deal.

in the treehouse presentation it sounded like the Amiibo is an AI character you can't control yourself
Soundwave said: I want a Bayonetta amiibo, but it probably won't happen right? There should be Megaman, Sonic, and Pac-Man amiibos though right? |
I doubt non-exclusive amiibos. While Nintendo might include amiibos of 3rd-party, I think they include only offerings exclusive for Nintendo-machines. I might be wrong though, let's see.
And I'm alreaydy get ready for kicking all the kids out of the way to get to my Link and Samus.
As a side note: this is the first positive post from you towards Nintendo in a long time. Did Nintendo just got you with the amiibo?
Soundwave said: I don't think it will be a big difference maker in hardware sales, but it will reap Nintendo a lot of extra profit from their existing fanbase for sure. Also for Splatoon ... a Mario Sunshine amiibo that lets you put Mario w/water (paint?) pack into the game would be swell. |
A, great idea with the other amiibos. I want Shibata!
By the way, I also await the Lego Link amiibo! Together with my copy of Lego Lgend of Zelda! That would be a dream!

No I liked their overall conference a lot. This reminded me a lot more of the Nintendo from the 90s and it was good to see them deliver. Amiibo was maybe like 10th or 11th best thing about the show, it was a nice thing, but certainly not the best thing they showed.

Wouldn't work for me, my niece is already an adult. But hey, I buy these amiibos for my nieces kids... or so.

I like the commpany I grew up playing Nintendo games I own a WiiU but this is a gimmicky peripheral that doesnt help the WiiU in a bit and if it were Ms or Sony ppl would say it was a cash grab atempt but since its Nintendo its an awesome initiative somehow. Seriously ppl drop the double standards. |
It is a cash grab attempt. No doubt about that. But, it's working.
