If I was six, the last thing I'd want are little chess pieces with Nintendo characters on them.

That's why all the kiddies like Skylanders, huh?

Yea that guy has apparently missed the whole Skylanders thing that happened.

In all seriousness though if I was a kid I would ditch my skylanders in about 2 seconds and just move on to these.    It's tough to beat Mario and Donkey Kong.

I'll be ok with it as long as it doesn't fuck with Smash's competitiveness.

As an adult who has a soft spot for skylanders and Nintendo they've put my wallet in a very precarious predicament. Not sure if I could/should afford both and Nintendo figures are super tempting.

EDIT: wasn't sonic boom meant to have figures? Wouldnt be suprised if they ended up as part of this amiibo line.

In terms of competitive gaming, I think "official" tournaments will require you to use the console characters.  These figures seem more of an added element between friends in a casual sense (or to add a new character if an Amiibo is released who isn;t a playable Smash or Mario Kart Character).

I hope so, Sonic has a spot on the mantle in my home :)

I knew this would turn up sooner than later, can Nintendo do no wrongs in ppls eyes ? I like the commpany I grew up playing Nintendo games I own a WiiU but this is a gimmicky peripheral that doesnt help the WiiU in a bit and if it were Ms or Sony ppl would say it was a cash grab atempt but since its Nintendo its an awesome initiative somehow.

Seriously ppl drop the double standards.

Of course its a cash grab, every game released on every system is a cash grab.  Just have to determine if the product provides enough value for you to purchase or not.

Youre beeing purposelly obtuse here, you know what I meant. Next step is someone clamming how this is another Nintendo initiative to drive games into the future and whatnot.

Im 700% certain that ppl would be trashing the Amiibo initiative non stop if it were a Ms or Sony initiative.

Dont think anyone would have an issue with Sony or Microsoft doing it. Those who like it will buy it, those who don't can ignore it. It's been working fine that way since Skylanders was released 3 years ago.

If you had to buy an Arbiter "Amiibo" to play as him during the Halo Collection (and could not otherwise do so), then its like DLC and a negative Cash Grab.

If it let's someone take their personal Mario with them to a friends house and play (Mario is and can be unlocked in other ways and does not require the figure) Smash with customized stats in a casual setting, then it is not something I would complain about.
