Forums - Nintendo Discussion - X just got a massive downgrade graphically speaking

To be honest X looks really good for a semi-realistic Wii U game. Its not fair to zoom up so close, even the werewolf in the order looked iffy. Nathan Drake on the other hand >_>

I still stand by my first assessment of the WiiU. Its an XBox 360 with more RAM thus larger scale, occasionally better textures and nothing else. Other enhancements are too subtle to be considered a generational leap, similar to the differences between 360 and PS3 ports at the start of the 7th generation. Better splashes and an extra 5fps in 7th gen ports aren't arent anything to get excited over. By default the WiiU can accomplish more on paper than the 7th gen but how much more is what dissapoints many given that the 360 is NINE years old. NINE.

As for X every game looks good zoomed out, Halo's vehicle sections prove this. RAM is a big deal when it comes to scale and thats why Unity, FFXV and Arkham Knight are skipping the WiiU. The 360 doesnt have the RAM to pull off the scale of Xenoblade but its GPU wouldnt choke in the slightest if it did.I feel digital foundrys MK8 analysis more or less confirms this, especially compared to Forza 4 (locked 720p60fps, 4X MSAA, AF) on 360.

Throw in fancy cell shading, bloom and an extra 512MB RAM (scale, draw distance) to console Skyrim and what do you get? *cough* Zelda *cough* Disagree? Look at Team fortress running on my PC below, looks better than Left 4 Dead 2 (also on my PC) even though it came out in 2007 and L4D 2 in 2009 on an "improved" source engine. The Zelda shown yesterday would not be able to run on the WiiU if it looked like the reveal demo.

Im just waiting for Project CARS which will be the final reference point as far as Im concerned, as a 30fps game I expect it to look slightly better than Forza Horizon 1 or 2.

I really wish people kept a level head when talking about graphics. I say this cause Im a basement game developer and even Ive come to appreciate using art to impress over raw polygon counts.

again with this? it was already discussed and proved to death that wii u is far more capable than ps360 in every aspect. no point in discussing this here.

I'm guessing you either came straight from wii or you are a high end pc gamer so all consoles look the same. Otherwise, I can't understand how you could possibly see it as something that legitimately competes with PS4/X1. We'll have to wait for nextgen Elder Scrolls, which I can assure you will not be on Wii U, to get a decent comparison, I guess.

* Edit - This is a response to Zero999's response of my last post.

I agree that after seeing the Treehouse demo, the game hasn't been downgraded. With that being said, what little we saw from X initially made it seem as a graphical powerhouse that could compete with PS4/X1, but now I looks like it has slightly better graphics than something on PS3/360. And that's only counting relative things (an open world JRPG), because something like TLOU or Uncharted 3 wipes the floor with this.

Compare its textures, particle effects, etc. to Infamous and it looks like poop. Then again, we won't get a really good game to compare it to until we get an open world jrpg for PS4 (maybe FFXV if it's open world?), but just looking at the textures, animation, etc, I am pretty disappointed.

Good for Wii U gamers though, they (if most migrated from Wii) still get a relative upgrade when compared to gaming on the Wii. Same goes for PS4 gamers when taking into account high-end PC players have had similar (if not better) graphical experiences for the past 3 or 4 years. It's all relative, I guess.

You guys are all looking at the wrong character models. Did any of you see how good that nopon looked?

I watched maybe 20 minutes of the demo footage and don't remember the individual character models, but of what I saw I simply was not impressed. The draw distance and scenery was great (why I don't think the graphics were downgraded, because they look like the old X footage), but the character models were just uninspired. Even the monsters were decent (not bad but not great). Then again, I think I am used to FF mobs, and even though Square has stumbled this past generation, they never fail to give good looking character models for both playable characters and monsters.

Guess monolith sticks to its strengths (environment), but for it to look like something on PS4, I'd expect it to up its character model game.

Yeah, they focused on environment. The Nopon was in the trailer at the end.

Well I did and tbh, Dragon's Dogma can easily compare to that. Maybe except for the fps which had some issues. The final result can and will be different though. For better I suppose

PS: Even though Dragon's Dogma doesn't have a main character, letting you be able to create your own, his or her facial expressions can top those of XX just so you know, atm [on cgis].

Dragon's Dogma has less detailed and far-reaching scenery, which is to be expected on consoles with only half as much RAM as Wii U.

I dunno about that, we have dev confirmation that the Wii U GPU's several generations (GPU gens of course) above the PS3/360 ones, and has DX10/11 level features...

A 5550 HD has DirectX 11 features, a 9800GT does not. A 9800GT is still more powerful thana 5550 even if it cant run DirectX11. Context.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

indeed, i noticed the downgrade as soon as the trailer started. no big deal, really, it will be amazing nevertheless.

Is the 9800GT several GPU gens older and DX9 level in terms of features?

Since I haven't played XX myself, I can't argue with that because it's just like you said, PS360 have weaker specs by default. But I know how good DD is from the beggining to end and how detailed it can be (very btw). I'll compare both whenever I get XX, because I still plan on getting a wiiu just to play this, despite the graphics being downgraded.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...
