Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One missteps may end up costing Microsoft $1 billion

The Xboss to announce a console exit at E3 because some shitty analyst says they might end up losing this estimated figure based on estimated missteps which may result in an estimated drop off on the estimated amount of consoles he estimated the Xbone to sell.

I doubt they lost anything.

Companies mean money they could have gained, when mentioning stuff like this.

Just because MS has the money doesn't make it anymore okay.

Exactly this.  I'm apalled to hear people say that it is okay to lose $1 billion, even though they can afford it.

Why? You have people with PS4's now saying the PS3 mistakes and huge losses for Sony were actually a good thing.

That's why it's called a prediction.  He's estimating that if MS hadn't made the missteps that they would be in much better position now and going forward.  That if things continue the way they have been, that they will have missed out on $1B dollars in revenue.

Yeah....i know what a prediction is. And whats fun about them is when people make a bunch and are wrong we get to criticize them for continuing to make them especially when they dont include nuances, rationale, logic or numbers.

Also my 2 year old niece could "estimate" that if MSFT (or any living being/entity for that matter) didnt make missteps they would be in "better" positions. This isnt an estimate. It is a statement about the facts of the universe. IE: If someone makes better more desirable decisions, in hindsight they would be better off because the nature of a misstep is that of not stepping appropriately, thus....duh?. Great defense for Pac you have there. Again he is regurgitating novice things and is labeled a professional or even dare I say an "expert" for such "estimations"

So I am guessing you either don't know who Pachter is and his history or are just happy to see what he is saying and choose to ignore the source. I would imagine if someone "predicts" a company to lose 1 billion dollars (where did he get that number from) then they might want to offer some insight as to how they arrived at that sum. Pachter never does this. He has no idea.

Again. Pachter.

I wasn't defending Pachter or stating I agreed with him.  You and the previous poster were stating you were "confused" and "didn't understand" the article.   The fact that you even felt the need to state that "It most certainly has NOT cost MSFT 1 billion dollars LTD so it cannot be up to now that hes referring to." doesn't give me much hope for you 2 year old.

Who was saying this?

Since it's Pachter does that mean it will gain 1 billion profit instead?

But seriously, this is expected and MS has the money.

Please stop saying MS has the money.

Its just really ridiculous because what kind of stakeholder would want to see their company loose 1 billion dollars in the sales of their products.. especially if the cause was so bloody stupid and obvious.

Yay!!!

Many things point to they have and will.

It was designed and costs profits estimated based on a certain strategy, market said fuck that and they had to flip flop last minute.  Was designed around kinetic, market said nahh and they had to drop it now and will eat its costs.  It was designed as something way differant then they are now being force to make it into, a gaming console compared to their mega ambitious plan.  I doubt they were expecting anything less then 360 like sales, now 80m seems like a pipe dream.

With out the user base live profits suffer, 3rd party pay suffers 1st party sales suffer.  Inferior to PS4 3rd party games means even less sales and even less profits.  X1 has somehow manged to deflate every single great revenue stream 360 built last gen.  As i said, plenty things point to losses, if they cut price they eat losses if they hold steady and sales languish behind PS4 they eat losses.

As ms fans would say, a bill is nothing for Micro$$$soft. Likely they will lose a lot, I'm sure their costs estimates and overall figures for this gen were based on far higher X1 sales they they are having and likely will have. All will factor in to some serious financial negatives, luckily ms can easily eat em with out even a hiccup.

Yes, but their shareholders won't be happy about it. They want the Xbox One to make a profit.

If things don't go exactly the way that they plan with Xbox One, their shareholders will most likely force Microsoft to spin off the Xbox brand & cancel R&D production for the 4th Xbox console. Heck, they wanted to get rid of the brand before Xbox One even launched due to the Xbox brand not making them a lot of money.

Not one calculation, no methodology, nothing. Not even a quote.
