Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I'll tell you why Nintendo fans are so excited over 1 week's worth of sales.

The Wii U was written off as a flop and essentially dead since November of last year, so it's kind of exciting for Nintendo fans to suddenly see the Wii U acting like the quiet kid that snaps on the play ground. For one week at least, it's holding the Xbone down and dropping turds in its mouth, while mean muggin' the PS4 as it sits on the jungle gym.

The timing of this erruption literally could not be better.

This is the most exciting thing to happen in the Wii U's lifespan, and it occurs right before E3, one of the 2 most important times in the entire video games industry, when Nintendo has fully embraced the concept of DLC, which is a good way to extend the life of Mario Kart's push, and has a decent looking lineup in the middle of an Xbone/PS4 drought.

E3 excitement paired with the Wii U's first signs of life is just helping the hype train build steam. If the Wii U stays close to Sony again this week and Nintendo doesn't drop the ball at E3, then get ready for a far more zealous Nintendo crowd, not only here but over the entire internet.

Yeah but I wouldn't celebrate yet.  I always give a sales spike 3 weeks to see where sales fall back down to before I get out the champaign...

Please be sure to make a thread, the exact time and date you pop that cork.

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

LOL, give at a few weeks.

Looking a little bleak actually. I sincerely hope VGChartz estimates are wrong, because if the Wii U couldn't outsell the PS4 for at least one week with its biggest exclusive of the year, then Nintendo are in trouble. And before people lecture me on Watchdogs being a huge release, it was available on 4 other platforms and received 2 months straight of negative press coming up to its launch.

OP makes a fair point. I think Wii U will be at 14 million sold at the end of the year and effectively dethrone the PS4. We'll see at least 1 million units moved as a result of MK8 this month and the momentum will just pick up towards the holidays.

This only makes the metaphor much more interesting.

The first sentence is factually incorrect. Most people were hopeful the holidays, games and pricecut would sustain a higher sales. Remember Johnlucas thread? The analogy is even worse.

Yes, I remember JohnLucas. Was I supposed to take anything he said seriously or use him as an example for most Nintendo fans?

That thread didn't get as large as it did because of John himself. Hell, 6 active users expect Hw sales to rise next week for the Wii U.

This mindset still doesn't make sense to me. Watch_Dogs was marketed as a PS4 game, and Sony fans tell me the PS4 version was the best version. It's not too hard for PS4 to go from 120k to 200k, but it's insane for Wii U to go from 40k to nearly 190k. You can downplay the bump, but it doesn't change the fact that it's a great one.

It is a great bump, and while I don't mean to delve into semantics, it's exactly that, a bump. I'm just not sure if Nintendo have the necessary bevy of titles planned out for the next 4 years to keep the Wii U relevant amongst consumers. I suppose E3 and TGS will alleviate my concerns.
