Forums - Gaming Discussion - PlayStation 2 - Best Console Ever Released!

Simple answer NOPE not even in our dreams.

And for your interest console =/= games released on a console. So either change to "PS2 having the best library of games" which is still debatable or well just deal with my NO. :)

My second favorite console ever, only behind the OG Playstation.

Same here... tough I feel that my love for the PSone is a bit rose tinted, when compared with the PS2.

Absolutly objectivly speaking the PS2 could be considered the best concole ever

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

I preferred xbox, but a majority opinion would definitely be ps2 it had the best games, but for me xbox had the games I wanted

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Of course it is the best console ever. It stands on a podium in my room and even when I go through phases of other systems I still look at and celebrate the King every day. But wow @ people who think that PS4 has chance at repeating the success of PS2 - it simply isn't possible because a lot has changed, the world has changed - games take more time to develop for various reasons, there isn't much room for innovation anymore, people are tired of buying and playing the same game over and over etc etc.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

Only got my PS2 in february of this year and it's a beast. It has such a wide variety of games that I don't even know where to start lol. Best console ever made? Not sure about this one... eh, depends on the mood I'm in.

Lots of great games, but the hardware is terrible, my first ps2 broke in two weeks (brand new), the subsequent consoles didn't last much longer as well

Not even close

1-NES
2-SNES
3-Genesis
4-PS1
5-Wii
6-PS2

How the hell do people have trouble with the ps2 fats? They're utter tanks. I have one from 01 with thousands of hours that works like new. It's basically Nintendo tough. Og Xbox was pretty tough too though I find the DVD trays start sticking after a while.

1. NES - Restored gaming after video game crash.
2. Playstation 1 - Bought mature and hardcore games in gaming who were fed up playing kid's games.

Hur? What kind of new mature content did the PS bring that the other 4th and 5th gen consoles didn't have?

Just off the top of my head, Wipeout, Gran Turismo, Resident Evil, Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story, FF7 and of course Metal Gear Solid. You may not want to hear it.. but The PSX really did make a more mature audience get into console gaming... or should I say, continue playing console games.

And to OP, It was the most successgul console ever released. Not the "best console ever released". Hell, in the PS2 generation the XBOX was the "best" console of that generation.

All fantastic games. No argument there. It's almost criminal how little time I've spent with PS1 games, but what I've played, I've loved. Sega and Nintendo had mature content like that too, though.

Off topic, but have you read the Parasite Eve book? Super weird. I loved it! Remember in the game when Meada talks about his facination with a similar smaller scale incident that took place in Japan? That's what he's referencing.

That was an awesome book, I totally ate up everything about Parasite Eve, loved that game to bits. I guess Vagrant story was a spiritual successor of Parasite Eve. Oh I forgot to add FFtactics in my list :). Another classic right there.

Well sega had always kinda had mature content, eg. there version of MK had blood and nintendos version had sweat? Mind you, this was bigger than a game running at 720p instead of 1080p back then haha...(the more things change the more they stay the same). The only "mature" games nintendo had back then were Turok and Goldeneye. Basically Rare studios. Nintendo themselves do not make mature content. Oh how could I forget, as funny as it may sound, the biggest mature content that the PSX and PS2 brought to the table were CD audio support and DVD playback support respectively. Imagine that.

I've seen gaming forum posters say some dumb things when it comes to the word mature, but this is the first time I've seen someone classify CD audio  and DVD playback as mature content.
