Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I feel like Nintendo is in big trouble at this point. Here's why:

I would argue the complete opposite.

- People that say Nintendo's online is 2 generations behind have clearly never touched a WiiU. While it's not as good as the other 8th gen consoles, it's still better than any of the 7th gen console.
- For the 8th gen, Nintendo is currently sitting at close to 50million units sold. More than double all other 8th gen consoles combined. A year head start? Yes. But, 50 million will not be caught any time soon.
- For every 3rd party game that skips Nintendo, they get another 3rd or 1st party exclusive to make up for it.
- The 3DS is the only handheld dedicated gaming machine to survive the mobile surge.
- Mario Kart 8 has shown that the WiiU still has some fight left in it. We wont see a new Nintendo home console until late 2017.

How so?  Do enlighten us.  Also "Survive" would be the exact word I would use for the 3DS.  Although your kidding yourself if you think the next one will do as well...

Nintendo has 2 options

Either make a very cheap Nintendo only console

Or compete with the other 2 consoles with a powerful console

The problem is the Wii U is the Gamepad makes the console 80-100 USD more expensive that it should be

I think the first option is the best one for them. Nintendo not only is much smaller than Sony and Microsoft, it is also smaller than Ubisoft, EA and Activision.
They would have to associate themselves with a company like Panasonic or Samsung in order to compete as equals with Sony and Microsoft.

I think they should support the Wii U until they can sell for USD250 a console with 12 gigs of ram. that may be late in this decade.

They also shouldn't miss opportunities like buying Atlus

Not a bad idea.  The badly need more first party studios that can pump out non-classic games at a faster rate.

Hmmm..

To the is it too late? No, but will it sell close to Wii? No, but they can still get sales up for Wii U and had a moderate amount of sales. Luckily for them they have had a lot of sales this week thanks to Mario Kart 8 selling 1.2 million, but also Wii U selling over 180,000 units. Take into account that Iwata announced recently that the Wii U is making profit which is a huge step, even if it's just a few dollars. If it's 5 dollar profit and a million people buy it then it's 5 million dollars in the bank. Making profit is better than a loss and relying on the software to make profits with it.

3rd-party isn't great, but it doesn't mean it isn't there. Platinum Games have Bayonetta and Monoliths have X. Yeah it's not big, but it's not like Nintendo has always relied on 3rd-party much before. We Still had Zombi U and Assassins Creed and getting Watch Dogs from Ubisoft, Had a Resident Evil game from Capcom and obviously Monster Hunter. I think if they don't get more 3rd-party, then do their best to get as much out of the companies that are still willing to support while Nintendo hopefully gets as much software out.

I honestly don't think they are in as big trouble as people say like they are in deep danger. Nintendo still intend on making profits while Sony expect losses again sadly due to their other hardware such as Viao and Vita doing extremly poor and losing them a ton of money. The 130 job cuts had to be done since they want to put 2 buildings into just 1. It doesn't mean they are doing it to cut down on the money. I could be wrong, but it's hard to really say anything about if they are in big trouble or not because they seem to act like they will make profits and they have games to sell Wii U by another 3 million by the end of this year. Not been profiting sales for a long time so clearly something is up.

sometimes when I read Nintendo threads I feel like the time we were forced to read the new testament at school. 4 dudes write the same thing 4 ways.

Until Nintendo can convince customers to buy 3rd party titles on Nintendo Systems as oppose its competitors, we will continue to have these doomed threads.

Shhh, the chanting is about to begin.

so i gues nintendo should be more like sony and try to sell the wii u off of propaganda and hype. dont worry about making games, just make a powerful, but cheap console and make sure you all the third party companies port their games on it. then make a lot of adds and get the public to believe its going to be better than the competition. lol yeah, thatd work.

Nintendo can always fall back on their own games, which they seem to trying not to do for some reason this time around.

Hows about you give me a few valid reasons to explain how the WiiU's online services are on par with 6th gen consoles before I tell you why it's not. Because "That's what I believe without ever trying it." is just trolling. The handheld market is shrinking, but it's not going to disappear. There's only room for one dedicated handheld console in the market now, and I think it's pretty clear who's going to take that spot.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

Wii U's online is drastically better than you are making it out to be. I've been using all of Nintendo's online features for MK8 (Which is 12 player online races by the way). Adding people I've played with is easy, I can send messages easily, setting up a private group with my friends is easy. Nintendo's online is not perfect, but on the Wii U at least, it's pretty solid.
