Part of problem are the big Japanese developers are not supporting the 3DS with same confidence as the DS or GBA in favor of putting the games on phones.

seriously, Sonic always has a handheld series, but not with 3DS. Where is the real castlevanias at? Why does SE need to have their teeth pulled to bring their games over all of sudden when we drowing in their games in the last 2 gens. That is just a few examples.

Well, the 3DS did get some sub-par ports of Generations and Lost World!

Yeah, the days 3DS domination are over

What happened: Smartphones and Tablets happened and extremely shrunk the 3DS's potential market, some people thought the 3DS would be immune against what (between other issues) made the Vita fail, well turns out it isn't. Nintendos software helped it from doing as bad as the Vita, but that couldn't stop the inevitable either.

What can they do: Nothing, pretty much. It's all downhill for the 3DS from here on out, titles like Smash and Pokemon will give some sales bumps, but overall the 3DS is just going to continue declining over the next years.

There's clearly not going to be a big revival since the 3DS has already had it's peak year, but there needs to be a better looking decline than there is. It should be more gradual instead of extremely negative, and Nintendo can do something about that.

For instance, a new 3DS iteration comes to mind. NA and Europe got the 2DS last year (which is arguably not a very "general audience" sort of product), but Japan hasn't had a new 3DS since 2012, 2 years ago. Japan is a region where we are seeing major decline of 3DS sales and NoJ doesn't seem to want to change that considering how minimal their 3DS output is, especially concerning new HW.

A exclusive series like Rush and Advance, not watered down versions.

Hope it fails so we can just get a Nintendo Smartphone. Handhelds are a dead technology in my opinion.

I wouldn't say dead per se, but it would be a smart idea if Nintendo can make a smartphone that combines their games but also has features that can compete with the iPhone. They would have to REALLY play their cards right and make options for little kids whose parents don't want to add them to their contract.

I would be thrilled to give up my iphone for a Nintendo Phone.

Why not both? They can have an iPod touch like device for cheap, and an Iphone like Smartphone with contracts and whatnot.

I wonder when will Square Enix get their shit together and announce Dragon Quest XI for the 3DS!

Still hoping for an english localization of the DQ7 remake.

3DS is losing it's stream of games. At least Nintendo will go concentrate on the Wii U now. Maybe this mark the end of successful handhelds as we know them?

I said the 3DS had no games for 2014 in the beginning this year, and people didn't believe me. The sales prove it. Badly is a harsh exaggeration though. It's doing mediocre.

It's a games problem. I haven't bought a single game for the system this year, and I bought 8 last year.

I predict it will improve drastically though. Smash, Poke-remakes, and hopefully a surprise holiday title(metroid, Majora's mask 3d, etc) will start to save sales.

2nd half of 2014 >>>>>>>>>>>> 1st half of 2014 for sure :0
