DerNebel said: Yeah, the days 3DS domination are over What happened: Smartphones and Tablets happened and extremely shrunk the 3DS's potential market, some people thought the 3DS would be immune against what (between other issues) made the Vita fail, well turns out it isn't. Nintendos software helped it from doing as bad as the Vita, but that couldn't stop the inevitable either. What can they do: Nothing, pretty much. It's all downhill for the 3DS from here on out, titles like Smash and Pokemon will give some sales bumps, but overall the 3DS is just going to continue declining over the next years. |
There's clearly not going to be a big revival since the 3DS has already had it's peak year, but there needs to be a better looking decline than there is. It should be more gradual instead of extremely negative, and Nintendo can do something about that.
For instance, a new 3DS iteration comes to mind. NA and Europe got the 2DS last year (which is arguably not a very "general audience" sort of product), but Japan hasn't had a new 3DS since 2012, 2 years ago. Japan is a region where we are seeing major decline of 3DS sales and NoJ doesn't seem to want to change that considering how minimal their 3DS output is, especially concerning new HW.
