Forums - Gaming Discussion - After Wii U's disappointing Hw boost do you still think Nintendo was lowballing?

BTW - a little fun with math. If Wii U sells ~500k every 2months , meaning 25% in baseline... Which is real good, then by Oct they will only have 1.4m leaving 2.2m for the next 6m to reach projections

I must be reading the wrong chart if the sales were "disappointing"

You killed your own thread with the opening line.

Most predictions suggested a HW boost to the 80k - 130k range.    190k is the opposite of a disappointment.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

I think nintendo will struggle to pass 12 million mark for wii u.

Go back to when Nintendo released their projections. Those predictions are the product of goal posts being moved

that was impressive!!
a boost of around 150k...

from 30 to 180.

I'll be honest Max, I really think you need to include some actual examples of what kind of predictions you are going against here. As it is the thread reads like you built a strawman army of people that said MK8 would propel the WiiU past Nintendo's yearly sales expectations immediately.

...

Of course it was lowball... they even said it was.

Basically they put numbers they know they'll reach, not the numbers they think they'll reach.

I don't agree with you that the hardware boost was underwhelming. In Japan yes, but not in Europe or in the US. I think these numbers were very impressive for a console that has struggled enormously since launch.

Hopefully they'll be able to maintain this momentum but I fear Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2 and X are too far away. Maybe they'll have some surprises at E3 that will spur even more interest. Time will tell, but I'm more optimistic about its future than I've been since early 2013.

I don't understand how you can describe the hardware boost as disappointing. Prior to the numbers being released most people were wondering if Wii U could get over 100k for the week (especially after the disappointing 19k for Japan) and in the end it managed 180k. How on earth is this a disappointing boost?
