Forums - Gaming Discussion - Who will come out on top in the Call of Duty 2014 Battle? UPDATE: Playstation takes the Ghosts battle

I can't start a new thread so I figured I'd throw this out there. I attended a focus group and saw a presentation for a future Call of Duty game. Not sure if it's for 2015 or 2016, as it featured a lot of the weightless/astronaut stuff from Ghosts making me think it's from Infinity Ward, which would put it in 2016. Or it could just be Treyarch using tech from Ghosts.

Anyway, it looks quite good. Certainly familiar (which I think was supposed to be a surprise; we were asked if it looked like a new game or one from an existing franchise and all of us said clearly Call of Duty). Remember that leaked Star Wars: Battlefront 3 footage from Free Radical? Imagine that with PS4-ish graphics. We saw the player start in a land battle, jump into his jet, and fly into space seamlessly.

At the end we were asked whether we'd rather have this (one guy joked it should be called Future Warfare) or Modern Warfare 4. I think everyone said they wanted the future game.

Given pure numbers, the ps4 version would be expected.

The only reason Xbox is putting up a fight with Ghosts is because the last gen versions were so lopsided. That will be less of a factor this time around, so Playstation will win easily.

I believe Xbox will come out on top because the majority of the sales come from NA and I'm sure Xbox will close the gap or even surpassed ps4 by november. Microsoft also have advertisement advantage on their hand. That said, the gap between the two will be much closer than it was last gen.

hehehehehe........

People really think that the only reason that the PS4 is selling better than the XB1 in NA is due to price.

Because that pretty much IS the reason, plus most M$ fans were still content with their 360s during last holiday season since just about every major 3rd party title was released on it.

What's funny about this thread though is that all last gen we heard how the 360 was the dumb "shooter box" for the "dudebro" gamers, and COD was the biggest love-to-hate-it offender of the bunch, while the PS3 was the real gamer's choice and was all about the 1st party exclusives.  Fast forward to today, and my how the tables have turned...

3 out of the top 5 best selling PS4 games are FPS, only one of the top 5 is an exclusive, and look who's leading the way at #1.  Now all of a sudden COD is awesome again because it's selling more on Sony's console than it is on M$'s.

In any event, I think for the next COD the X1 version will edge out the PS4 version in sales, but Destiny will sell more on PS4 and be the biggest title of the fall for the console (and surprise, it's another FPS!)

I look forward to your reaction when Microsoft announces that they're leaving the console space.

You're going to be waiting a looooong time, my friend.

BTW, what's Sony's bank account looking like these days?

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Because every company is willing to waste billions of dollars on a venture that's sure to return negative dollars in net profits.

With the way the Xbone is going, it's doubtful that Microsoft will make even a penny off the Xbone. No profit = No support. This has nothing to do with the other departments of SONY and Microsoft.

There has to be accountability in each department of a company. One department that's likely to lose billions with no hope of ever making a profit in the future isn't going to be handed billions of dollars in budget. That's why the Xbox is more endangered of being canned than the PlayStation.

Also, this study came out just in time:

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/79-Gamers-Say-They-Won-t-Buy-Cheaper-399-Xbox-One-64455.html

"Two-thirds of Xbox 360 owners aren't even going to give the Xbox One a looksy at the $399 mark. That's without Kinect, that's with the new Games for Gold program and that's with apps being brought from behind the Xbox Live paywall like Darius Rucker emerging from the adult alternative genre as a country star."

The Xbox is in trouble, and you know it. I'm not a fanboy, so I look at things objectively. It just doesn't look great for the Xbox division atm.

Xbox

This is a good question...because COD will be keeping it's advertising with Xbox and I'm sure it will have a higher attatchment rate but it's possible that the sheer gap between the two consoles will put the PS4 ahead...

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Rumors are saying that Activision will announce PS4 as lead platform at this year's E3. Just another SONY tactic to ruin Xbox.

I expect PS4 > Xbone. That's the answer that means something.

I thought that they announced that Xbox would still be the lead platform...but I can't find the article now.
