Forums - Gaming Discussion - Ryse would be praised if it was by Quantic Dream.

Tagged games:

I enjoyed all three games Heavy Rain is a great game except for some akward voice acting Beyond was good but I prob liked the least I would give Ryse the edge due to its extremely slept on MP. I still play the MP a few times a week yes the combat it repetitive but I still find Ryse fun there are a ton of maps and challenges now and survival mode is really fun.

Heavy Rain got praise because it was new and fresh and reviewers overlooked some issues because it was unique. Beyond wasnt really praised. Ryse suffered from being a launch title I think reviewers were looking for more than just pretty graphics from a new system launch title.

Well it was actually well received by most critics and user scores are very generous.

Hence, that shows the validity to this thread.

no it doesn't, the reviews of beyond don't mean Ryse wasn't crappy or was somehow just mistunderstood. You're still certainly allowed to like the game, but don't pretend that the games reviews were bad for any other reason than issues with the game.

You're missing the point. I'm saying if Ryse was a QD game it would be perceived differently based on expectations from QD.

Ryse wasn't great, but I certainly feel it was a better product than Beyond Two Souls. Yet Beyond did better amongst critics and much better in user reviews. I think expectations from QD and Crytek are very different. People seem to be content with mediocre products from QD, yet people expect better from Crytek.

If you look through this thread people actually believe Beyond Two Souls was panned. In reality, the critics generally gave it positive reviews and users reviews are stellar. Its a double standard for mediocrity.

That's not what you were saying in the OP. You said that they should have marketed for it's story LIKE a QD game.

"Ryse should have been marketed for its story and graphics not gameplay. Much like games from Quantic Dream.

Think about it, Ryse is a cinematic game with lots of button prompts, fantastic visuals, and a good story. It should be praised for being a well executed cinematic experience the same way Quantic Dream titles are praised. Not trashed for being a mediocre hack n' slash game."

Bold: I think you have that backwards. Beyond was QDs first game not to get at least an 80 on metacritic while Crytek hasn't had a game break 80 since Crysis 2.  QD last game before Beyond was an 87 while Cryteks last game before rise was a 63.

Even if QD had made Ryse it would have been panned. It's a bad game. It just would have been panned for having a mediocre story (especially for a QD game) and not having good enough gameplay to make up for it. The reviews might have even been worse.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

This conversation has gotten much deeper than the OP... but I still stand by the OP.

Ryse isn't bad, nor is it great. Beyond is even worse and has a terrible story... yet scored pretty well. Go figure.

I consider Crysis 3 Crytek's last game. Warface feels more like a side project.

I think the problem here is that you're mistaking your opinion of the two games as the general consenus. Beyond was better reviewed and has a much higher user score on metacritic because people thought it was better.

I've already pointed out that QD has a better track record than Crytek so people aren't just used to bad games from them. There really isn't anything that could be done to help Ryse get better reviews without improving the game.

You say Ryse is a bad game as its an objective statement. Yet you feel my feelings toward Beyond if subjective. Funny how that works.

A lot of people on this forum thought Beyond had a worse critical reception than it actually did... because many know its bad game.

QD has a small record and their last step was a misstep, a bigger misstep than Crysis 3 even.

Ok let me rephrase, the genearal consensus as well as my own conclusion with the game is that Ryse is a bad game. It is not the general consensus that Beyond is worse.

A 70 is bad especially considering how well the last game was recieved and how much hype was surounding the game before it came out. But! you said it youself, it has an 84 for user reviews so obviously many people don't think it's bad.

Saying Beyond was a big mistep works against your point because you said people expected a bad game from QD and not from Crytek. The Critical reception of Beyond being such a large drop from previous games by them disproves that point.

How do you think Ryse would have been reviewed if it was made by QD?

Why is this thread still going? It's literally the worst thread on vgc in the past month.
No offense, puggs, but this is horrible, and honestly comes off as disingenuous.

No offense taken. This is a horrible thread and I'm surprised how much attention it got.

I think I'm ready to let it die.

Playing Ryse now with no expectations and I like it. I also liked Quantic's last few games.....
