Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Did anyone predict Wii U to do this bad? If so, why?

Since I did not hear about it until months after it was out, and I consider myself a Nintendo fan, I probably would not have given a good prediction if you had asked me.

Zelda is nowhere near popular enough to ever be the best selling game on a system.

After it was revealed I thought it would end up at 50 million units sold. But then we saw bad signs like games getting delayed and so on. In February 2013 I started to suspect a little, and by E3 2013 I was completely sure it would turn out like this.

Yep.

I predicted 30M Lifetime, thats a stretch a now

To be fair I expect the X1 to have so many 180s and the PS4 to sell on Hype and for the first few months either...

But I don't blame Nintendo for calling it the Wii U instead of the Wii 2. no one elese has t a letter after the brand instead of a number in gaming before.

anyway......THIS IS THE LAST YEAR FOR THE WII U BEFORE IT STAYS BAD.

thast what I belive.

I did. My reasoning behind it was that the majority of those that bought into the Wii were non gamers who bought the console for the motion controls, played Wii Sports a few times, then maybe once a month or when friends came over from then on. That the Wii U is a tablet like gimmick instead, but an expensive toy that they'll only play for a few days like the Wii, then is left to gather dust in a closet.

I thought the Wii U would be less than half of the Wii userbase, no actual prediction.  After six months when someone asked, my prediction was 18m lifetime.

I don't think anyone could have realistically seen it coming, mostly because it's not the concept that's making it flounder, but the long series of mistakes Nintendo has been steadily making since its release.

However, I've said it before and I'll say it again: It can still turn around. Assuming it will fail by looking at the current trend and disregarding the potential impact of future changes is Pachter-thinking.

Bloodbath Paddy Wagon Ultra 9

All I know is at that time I was so hungry for a jump in console power that I was salivating for a Wii U...then they released the specs and I lost all interest. I imagine many others felt the same way

Given the support at first, it looked like it had a chance but something clearly went wrong

Prediction: Switch will sell better than Wii U Lifetime Sales by Jan 1st 2018

Pretty much from the start. I called it back in 2011.

The whole concept was flawed, and there were warning signs everywhere. The more they revealed, the worse it got. The fact they completely botched 2013 and onward just sealed the deal. The only thing they really did right was to ditch the circle pads they used for the reveal model.
