Forums - Nintendo Discussion - New Wii Sports Resort for Wii U? Your thoughts..

Tagged games:

A Wii Sports Resort sequel for Wii U makes a good deal of sense to me. It's the one big franchise from the Wii Nintendo really hasn't attempted on the U.

In terms of gameplay, Nintendo could offer more variety than the original Sports Resort buying utilizing the Gamepad, the Fit Meter, and NFC.

In terms of sales, it's a title known and loved by the "blue ocean".

Overall, I think it works better in the Wii U "formula" than Wii Fit and Wii Sports. We expect Wii Sports to always remain Wii Sports -- even when it's on Wii U. No one wants to fling the GamePad into the TV playing Wii Tennis or bowling. Wii Fit obviously shoe-horns itself into the expectation to make its users significantly more fit -- which it has some difficulty in actually doing purely on its own. Wii Sports Resort is  a genuinely more easy-going, party/casual game. It better lends itself towards weird little mini games with all the Wii U peripherals because of these expectations.

However, it's always been a good game you could use to break a quick sweat if you really wanted to. I'd wager it'd be a good avenue towards introducing the Quality of Life platform.

I believe it would outsell Wii Party U at the minimum.

What do you think? I for one wouldn't be surprised to see it at E3 this year. Yet to this point, no one has talked about that possibility at all. Discuss.

Not interesting to me. Would make a whole lot blue ocean for the sense.

I'm positive for it. Wii Sports Resort was a great game, and it should be capable of breaking even, although of cource not anything like the original.

I don't know if Nintendo can attract these gamers anymore but it probably doesn't cost too much time and money to make so I guess it wouldn't hurt.

Does Nintendo have its own team dedicated to these blue ocean titles or do they take a little a bit of time from EAD and other dev groups?

I figure it'd be the same EAD team from Wii Sports Club U, Wii Fit U, and Wii Party U. Those are all done and shipped for several months now, gotta figure they're up to something.  It might as well be this.

I would love it personally. Wii Sports Resort was one of the best games I played last generation. Nice, diverse selection of events, most of them winners; clever use of the MotionPlus; and huge replay value.

It would be great to see what Nintendo could add to the formula with the GamePad and a more sophisticated online infrastructure.

I would be down for it, but I don't think it would spur sales that much....

No. A new game in the same spirit, sure, but Wii Sports Resort 2 will do about as much for Wii U as Fit or Sports Club did. A fresh game with a fresh concept would be much better. Though controlling a jet-ski with the Gamepad does sound fun...

Didn't Namco do the Tennis or Bowling for Sports Club or am I remembering things wrong..?

This. The Wii U needs it's own Wii Sports, not just a port of the games from 2006. It also needs a steady stream of games for both "core" Nintendo fans and titles that could catch the eye of the casual audience.
