TO HELL WITH FACTS!

Damn the NRA, white, misogynist, racist, ultra-right wing, high capacity magazines!  For the children!

To read much of what the liberal anti-gunners have written since Friday about the cowardly murderer in Santa Barbara (Isla Vista more correctly), one would think that the murderer (I will never use his name in print) was a card carrying NRA member, Tea Party member, sexist who had no mental health issues.  Of course they did not actually say all that (this time, but remember Aurora, CO?), they just merely alluded to some of that this time around.

This insane graphic is prominently displayed in The Daily Beast’s article

For instance, Cliff Schecter of The Daily Beast, like many others is once again blaming the NRA for this “gun massacre”.  To read this guy’s rendition of the incident, you would think that the POS murderer was a spokesman for the NRA.  Never mind that his “facts” are completely non-factual.  He describes the “7 people murdered” by an individual who mainly targeted women, using high capacity magazines, apparently supplied by the NRA arms dealers, and oh yeah, Newtown…  Don’t forget the children.

That would get my blood boiling, if any of it were remotely true.  ”Wait” you say.  ”Not true?” you ask.  But how can a news source put out bad “news”, and then not retract it even when it is known to be false?  Easy, because it is agenda driven, not fact driven.

Let’s examine the true facts.
- Fact:  6 people were murdered, not 7.  The 7th “victim” was the chicken sh!t murderer offing himself.
- Fact:  Only 2 of the 6 victims were killed by gunfire.  3 of them were stabbed to death and 1 was killed with the murder’s car.
- Fact:  Only 2 of the murder victims were female, the other 4 were male.
- Fact:  The magazines found in the coward’s possession were all CA legal 10 round magazines.  Not the heinous, world ending “high capacity” magazines the antis attribute so much death and destruction to.
- Fact:  All three handguns (note, no evil assault rifle that is the scourge of humanity) the murderer had in his possession were all legally purchased by him in CA, despite the ludicrously stringent gun laws in this state.  Despite the 10 day waiting period, despite the extensive background checks, despite the state wide handgun registry, despite the “prohibited persons” database, despite the fact that he went through all the steps the anti-gunners claim they want to save lives, he was able to purchase his guns legally.

But that is just The Daily Beast, hardly a reputable news source.  So, let’s take a look at what Jessica Valenti , a writer at the beacon of honest news, the Guardian, had to say.  According to her, it was not his mental illness that is to blame.  No, we cannot blame that because that would be a “mistake” and would only serve to stigmatize other mentally ill people.  Instead, she blames the “gun culture” and “misogyny”.   Yes, the war on women!  Of course, why did I not see that?  I’m so stupid.   Then she quotes some female artist, whom I have never heard of, who incorrectly labeled this incident terrorism in a tweet.  Where to start?

Well, first of all, I must point out, that not only were more of the murdered victims male than female (2-1 ratio in fact), he also made threats to kill men in his videos and “manifesto” (ie: written rantings of a psycho), but since that does not bolster her point, she conveniently ignores that.  As for the “gun culture” involvement in this crime, since the majority of the victims of this incident were not killed with guns (again, 2-1 ratio were killed with non-guns), blaming the “gun culture” is just another false flag.

On a side note, as proud member of the actual gun culture, I can honestly tell you that we never, ever tell, suggest or even hint to people that running around murdering people is a good thing.  In fact, we pretty much preach the exact opposite.

Her act of intentionally ignoring the mental health aspects of this incident is ludicrous.  That is intentionally putting one’s head in the sand to avoid the glaringly obvious.  It takes all of 30 seconds worth of watching this coward’s video, bearing in mind we now have 20/20 hindsight, to come to the conclusion that he was “nuttier than squirrel poop” (that’s an industry term).  To try and shift that blame to his upbringing in our “misogynistic” society, the same society that I and a great number of you grew up in, is completely misplaced.

It is so wrong that I really do not want to even address the labeling of this incident as terrorism.  If you are dumb enough to buy that, I’ve got a 5,000 sq.ft. subterranean bunker on a beachfront bridge in Nevada to sell you.  Let me just point out that by definition, an act of terrorism has a political objective that the act is committed in furtherance of.  This incident is lacking that aspect completely.  Let’s not try and make this more than it is.  It really is bad enough all on its own.

As a cop, and a male cop at that, I especially enjoyed her completely insane musing of:

“I have to wonder how much police dismissed Rodger’s video rants because of the expectation that violent misogyny in young men is normal and expected.”

Yep, she nailed it!  It is the guy club!  If you are a guy, you can say whatever you want, so long as it is directed toward women, and we will let you get away with it.  I never, ever arrest guys, or place guys on WI5150 holds, so long as their threats are only directed at women.  That is the get out of jail card right there…   (just in case you missed it, that was sarcasm)

Enough of those conservative news sources, let’s take a look at what Elizabeth Plank had to say over at the ever-so-slightly liberal PolicyMic.  She starts by drawing correlations to “other school shootings”.  Her whole article is based on the incorrect claim that this was a “school shooting”.  This was NOT a school shooting!  It may have involved students of the school, but that does not a school shooting make.  Isla Vista, where this incident occurred, is not part of the UCSB campus.  It is merely a small neighborhood adjacent the school where many students choose to live, but it is not solely inhabited by students, as many non-students reside there as well.  My sister went to UCSB and lived in Isla Vista.  I visited her there many times and I am quite familiar with the town.

Getting beyond her erroneous “school shooting” comparison, we again see this incident being blamed on misogyny.  He wanted to kill women (just women) because they spurned his advances.  Again, Plank clearly chooses to ignore his threats at both his male roommates and the other men who interfered with his ability to snag babes.

She does correctly point out that most mass murderers are male and white, but she fails to comprehend that this turd only fits half that description as he was indeed male, but was of Asian descent.  And then she includes school shooting statistics about the gender of the victims in order to back her assertion that America is a misogynistic society.  She claims more victims are female than male, but in order to get those numbers, she has to include statistics from Canada and Europe (where civilian gun ownership is either far more strictly regulated if not downright illegal).  When you consider only US statistics, males killed in school shootings outnumber females 71-65.  Dammit, those silly facts again…

On the off chance that you need a reminder that money cannot buy you brains, I give you the ultra-rich, ultra-liberal, ultra-anti-gun, ultra-moron, Michael Moore who, in a statement he posted on Facebook, blames, among other things, congress for not passing stricter gun laws that “90% of Americans want”.  Hey genius, this incident happened in CA, where all of those stricter gun laws you claim that 90% of us want already exist.  This once again proves what we (those of us who can actually use our brains) have been saying for decades:  More gun laws cannot possibly prevent crimes like this.

Finally, the family and some complicit media outlets seem to be blaming the cops for not magically preventing this tragedy.  The family attorney was nice enough to shift the blame off the parents, the people solely responsible for raising this psychotic nut job, and direct the public anger toward the cops who the family recently called in order to bring his YouTube videos to the attention of the police.

It is very easy, with 20/20 hindsight, to look at those videos and see them for what they are.  That said, as a career patrol cop in CA, we do not have the luxury of 20/20 hindsight when we are trying to determine if someone falls under the strict criteria laid out in Welfare & Institutions 5150.  The person must be an immediate danger to themselves, to others or be gravely disabled.  I have no idea what the cops were told when the family called them, nor do I have any idea what the POS told the cops when they contacted him, but I refuse to blame someone who likely only had 30 minutes of interaction with him, when the family had 22 years to get his problems properly addressed.  The same family who supported his lifestyle and has far more influence over him than any stranger could ever hope to have.

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Around the Network

I was there at the massacre and saw someone get shot and (probably) die. I am a UCSB student who just wanted to go on a bike ride, not get shot at. One of my friends was just confirmed dead.

How many more must die before we've had enough?

This complex and tragic event supports my own view.

If this article was posted on gaf, you'd be ban-hammered to oblivion, I guarantee you.

I agree with it fully, of course

Can someone summarise this for me? Because AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FO DAT!

Im just happy to be part of a community that doesn't value non-hunting guns as an essential household commodity.
