Forums - Website Topics - Why is being a vocal member of a community frowned upon?

*EDIT* Not talking about flaming, just respectful discussion from a vocal member. Flaming is unacceptable.

It seems that criticizing certain companies and practices is becoming less and less acceptable.

For example, some people get really defensive when the topic of DLC comes up. If someone speaks out on Day 1 DLC or season passes on a game that they like, other get super defensive and instead of calmy debating, they just flat out slam the train of thought and tell them to "deal with it".

In other cases, people get worked up because people don't quite agree with their opinions. Just recently my ideas on a game were called "retarded", and with little justification, because I didn't agree with a person. Is openly expressing your opinion and disagreeing with a company really that bad? I understand if someone disagrees and wants to debate it, but it seems that some people just can't debate respectfully. A lot of this happens on opinion threads, too. Why slam others' opinions?

If I'm vocal on a game, and call out some flaws, I'm called a non-fan or a hater. It seems that some people need to relax and stop taking criticism for a company like a personal insult. And I mean this in every case. It's hard to speak out with criticism without being attacked for it.

Most members of the community are awesome, but there are some that see themselves as better than everyone else. It happens in every community, and I know there's no way to avoid it, but it's still a little saddening.

Ohhhh I know where this is coming from

Its cause its the internet and everyone has good days and bad days and wanking off days. Just cause one person has a certain point of view and a certain experience doesn't mean everyone else has had the same experience which seems to be the issue a lot. For example: I think day 1 DLC is the worst idea since furries cause I have had a bad experience with them but some other person might love day 1 DLC cause they may have had a great experience with them

Its kind of like how you don't really like Samsung phones but I love them alot... It doesn't mean you are wrong or I am wrong, its just I have had good experiences with them and you had bad experiences

Either that or its a fanboy thing

Just ignore the annoying users. There are too unreasonable and stubborn to discuss anything with anyways.

I've wondered the same thing for years. On 1up, I was seen as a super troll for being an Xbox hater and speaking my honest opinions. But, 1up is gone and it is almost time to be super vocal here. I've been waiting for the right time. The time for gamemaster4747 on VGChartz is almost here!

Being a vocal member is fine; it's all about what those vocals consist of.

It's one thing to bash the company, another to bash its fanbase.

Lot's of people who are vocal about the negative's of either of the Big 3 (which is fine as long as its constructive criticism) tend to treat the fanbase just as bad.
