Nerds getting mad over bullshit a waste of a site like DF says = hilarious.

The game looks gorgeous, and it's going to be fun as fuck. That's literally all that matters.

56 reviews saying the game is great, most also stating it looks great. One of the highest rated games this year.

1 review stating the game has no AA (most of us knew it was 720p) and people start losing their minds, with the predictable bevvy of naysayers saying I told you the WiiU sucks etc. etc.

People need to make their own judgement, in person, about how the game looks if this kind of thing really matters to them. I sincerely hope that most of the people in this thread 'genuinely complaining' are trolls, because if this kind of thing affects truly affects your decision to purchase a game like this, then I am sorry for you.

You have to allow for the bias because it's a Mario game.  Reviewers aren't expecting cutting edge graphics in a MK game.

LOL

* "The new art direction and stunning visuals really go a long way to showing off every nuance of every level, and I'd go so far as to say that it's one of the best-looking games out there right now on any system."

* "Its also worth remembering that Mario Kart 8 is the series first outing in the wonderful world of HD, so you're probably left wondering exactly what the game looks like on a glorious HD screen. Truth be told, it looks absolutely fabulous, blowing any of its predecessors out of the water. So much so that other Mario Kart games just feel shallow in comparison to this one. HD provides clarity during races and new effects out on the track, water looks lovely. In short, Mario Kart 8 is a treat on the eyes."

* "But it’s the visuals that mark the biggest jump in the series; because they look incredible."

* "Mario Kart 8's graphics are some of the best I've seen in a game made by Nintendo."

* "Mario Kart 8 also marks the series first foray into the HD era and it does a masterful job. It’s one of the, if not the best looking games on the Wii U to date. The new tracks are just awe inspiring and will make you want to go back and watch the highlights. Nintendo has always been a master of color and the purity of the color within Mario Kart 8 is something to marvel at. I’d put Mario Kart 8 up against almost any game on the market today, it’s that gorgeous."

* "It may not be the photorealism that seems to be the pursuit of other major developers, but Mario Kart 8 is the most gorgeous looking video game... EVER!"

* "Outside of the shiny HD graphics, the big new addition for Mario Kart 8 is Mario Kart TV. Technically, it is very impressive."

* "The graphics throughout all 32 tracks are stunning and not just in a ‘not bad for the Wii U’ kind of a way. Nintendo’s peerless art design and superb lighting effects makes the game as visually striking as any other this generation."

* "Mario Kart 8 is easily the best looking WiiU game to date, and it also does a great job of being a showcase piece for the console. This game looks so good at times it's amazing to see what a first party development team is capable of considering all the derision directed toward the power of Nintendo's console. The courses, character models, and even the periphery are incredibly detailed, all while pushing some impressive visual effects on the side, like when coming out of water, or the fireworks present on the Rainbow Road N64 track."

Really you don't have to open an account, to prove me right.

More than half the statements above tell that people are looking at this with different goggles than other games.

My 8th gen collection

that AA looks horrid.

But for an 8th gen game, the lack of AA should be mentioned in every review.  It's not Wii ffs.  It won't put me off buying it, but it will annoy me.

By all means it should be mentioned, people have a right be informed, but I don't think it's cause for this level of reaction.

I think much of the overreaction is from people who were not interested in the game in the first place and are just using it as an another excuse to rain on the WiiU parade.

Well negative wii u threads get 100x more posts then positive news ones. GO figure.

The low resolution and lack of AA would be understandable if the actual graphics were impressive, but even they are below average.

I don't know man, I haven't seen a Kart racer looking this good at 60FPS on consoles at 720p yet, I mean, I don't know what the fuck Rare or Media Molecule are doing these days, but they sure haven't topped MK8 yet on awesomeness. Hell, they never even topped MKWii on actual gameplay on duct taped Gamecubes, so I don't know if graphics is really the key thing, then again, I actually do play a lot of games that are spread across different platforms, so maybe I just don't see games the same way as a company focused person.

Youre the one talking about different companies and studios so clearly you are focused more on that than the facts which DF presented.

I've always known that the game is 720p with no AA so that part clearly never really bothered me and I never understood why people went crazy over speculating it being 1080p to start with. Your post had a few problems in it's own if that's your reply since it'd make your original post to not make any sense at all. What's average? What are you comparing it to or with? Where is your actual valid argument? Are you comparing MK8 to the likes of Uncharted or Halo where the comparison wouldn't even make sense or are you comparing to the same genre. I'm primarily a PC gamer with a pretty decent rig and I can't even say that MK8 looks "below average" because that'd be ridiuclous. You said something baseless with no examples to back up your supposed claim or opinion then reply with confirmation that you are baseless other than possible bias. That's not how you get respect, that's just straight up trolling that's too obivous which is worth about 0/100.

Trolling is when you are on a graphics thread which apparently you are not interested but are still here trying to piss off others.

I dont care if you have a PC or you knew it was 720p or anything else about YOU.

I LOVED 720P!!!

(in 2004)

This is a deal breaker for some people? I'm still happy playing Double Dash in. 480p at 60fps. Certainly preferable to 1080p at 30fps.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

People sure found alot to discuss when this game was still rumoured to be 1080p, but sure let's just sweep the facts under the rug.

Go ahead, discuss more. Curious to see what you have to contribute, DerNebel.

OT: Seriously not even AA. MK is in an indie. Hype it up people.

I just have to add that I said from the start that this whole 1080p rumour was very doubtful and that I find it very much worth discussing or at least pointing out that the game is 720p after all, when just 3 weeks ago we had a pretty big thread here where a whole lot of people just accepted 1080p as fact.

I really thought it would push the hardware and be 1080p. I mean wipeout HD is 1080p on PS3, GT5 has good antialiasing for its 720p, the Wii U should do better, 1 Go of memory for the developer, newer hardware.

Not that it change a thing for MK, the game is still visually excellent, and with the speed and fun, AA should not really matter... Just that I thought it would also be a tech demo that clearly shows that the Wii U is better than PS360, that we can have expectations in term of graphics.

Good? So now 4xMSAA with GT5 is only good?

The real problem is that Wii U is in fact weaker than even PS360, easily. Comparisons with multiplats games and exclusive 720p60fps like MK8 vs GT5 and Forza 4 are really telling. Wii U hardware is such a disappointement.

But really we always knew with the specs on paper: similar/weaker GPU (176Gflops vs PS3 192gflops and X360 240gflops) and much more weaker CPU a PowerPC tricore 1.2ghz for Wii U versus a PowerPC tricore 3.2ghz for X360, PS3 has one core PowerPC at 3.2ghz + 6 SPE at 3.2ghz. The Wii U CPU is so weak it has to dedicate one whole frame, 16ms, every ~second to  compute AI trajectories in MK8, causing a constant micro-stuttering.

Hopefully it has a few great games. A real dedicated Mario and Zelda box.
