Forums - Gaming Discussion - Smash Bros. Wii U will have NFC figures!

The Zero-Suit Samus figures will be out of stock longer than the PS4 drought

Can somebody please explain the appeal of this?

'Hey look! I can choose a character via the game's menu... OOORR I can do it by placing a toy next to my controller! : o'

I don't know about this.. If it is mandatory I will dislike it but if it will unlock characters early or if it's for skins as said before I don't think I'll really worry about it.

Shit! Idk if I should be worried or not

Seriously Jizz...?

Zero. Suit. Samus. FIGURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I quote... "fap, fap, fap, fap, ... fap." xD

Lolll I guess I can get a Samus figure and Beyonatta figure (if they have one) and get them to make out that way... Fap Fap Fap

I just hope the implementation isn't retarded

I don't think they'd lock content. This is still Nintendo we're talking about.

i dont think they will be used as DLC.

I think it will be used as a faster way to choose the parameters of a match.

like this: you choose your character, the skin, the alternative special attacks and save it to your figurine.
and then, when playing online, you can rapidly select your character and confings by just bringing the figurine near to gamepad.

and not only characters, but also stages, game modes and its parameters, allowed items, etc.

Good idea! This would be a very smart way to use NFC figures!

I also think the Pokken Fighters game will be the showcase where they kick off the figurine platform.

In this article about an Iwata Asks published back in 2011 -

"What Sakurai hopes to do is have the 3DS version of Smash Bros. allow players to build up their character through battle and rewards, then take their custom character to the Wii U version to face off against everyone. He feels it could be nice if they can make the "personal" portable space and the stadium-like "public" console space mesh together."

In the Smash Bros Nintendo Direct last month, Sakurai talked more about customising your characters' abilities, and hinted at increasing their capabilities - which could then be used in local play and Fun Mode online, but not in Glory mode. He also teased a connectivity between the 3DS and Wii U versions.

(Edit) And this pretty much confirms it will be possible, although it seems the NFP compatability between 3DS and Wii U won't be available until first half next year.

Yay for physical DLC.

Yup. If people thought paying $2.99-$4.99 for a new character was bad, try paying $13.99-$15.99.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

The Skylander toys are generally $5-$8 a pop no? I doubt Nintendo's toys will be that expensive.
