Report: Source Says The Division's 2015 Release Date Is "Optimistic"

A source has told Gamereactor that Ubisoft's The Division has a long way to go, and that the game was pushed to avoid "[doing] a Battlefield 4."

In the report, an unnamed source told Gamereactor that "The Division is without a doubt one of the most ambitious game projects of all time and our publisher has naturally realised this. We've been given increased resources, we're hiring lots at the moment and are given a lot of help from other Ubisoft teams which is going to be needed if we are to deliver a finished game by next fall. Sadly I still think that the date is a tad bit optimistic as we still don't have a functioning game and still have massive problems making our multiplayer component work at the concept stage. At the same time both we and our publisher are incredibly happy with our game engine and Ubisoft will naturally make use of it in lots of upcoming titles."

The source also said that EA and DICE's post-launch struggles with Battlefield 4 is one of the factors that led to the game being pushed back. He also said that – contrary to rumors – the studio has not changed the game's lead platform from PS4 to Xbox One: "PlayStation 4 is the more powerful hardware and we feel it is easier to develop for. Snowdrop [the game's engine – Ed.] works better on PS4 and even if Microsoft do want us to shift lead platform that's not something that has happened."

They really should have waited to announce it.

Yeah.

How could it possibly sell enough to justify the implied expense of being "one of the most ambitious game projects of all time" AND a delay on top of that?

If we compare Tomb Raider, it sounds like 5m in sales would lose money. But selling 5m on next-gen alone would already be huge. What are they expecting - 10m? 20m?

That's to include a Wii U version.

Dat delay... 2016 it is loll

Oh Ubisoft, when will u learn not to announce games so early

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

This is going to be an interesting title to track. Should provide us insight to what extent the economics of AAA games work in the next generation.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Is there still no offline mode?  If so I hope it fails.

Agreed, it really looks like they have trouble to hold back their load.
