Forums - Gaming Discussion - Should Sony keep supporting the Vita with AAA games? Will it just end up being an indie machine?

So, lets talk about the vita. The sales for this machine is as pathetic as the Wii U's. The 3ds is crushing it. Hell, the wii u seems to be doing slightly better then this thing. It seems like, it just won't appeal to people for one reason or another. Should Sony first party studio or third parties keep pumping out AAA games  once in awhile or do you think it will just be an indie machine from now on? Is it already an indie machine? What do you all think?

They shouldn't and they won't. And yes the Vita will be a indie, port and 'obscure japanese game that gets localized once in a blue moon'-machine.

Sony has already abandoned it. The only thing that will be able to save the Vita is third party developers. More than likely that won't happen with the limited support it's been getting from them. Once a year third parties release games for it and then nothing until the following year.

But I think so... Like the wiiU is selling pretty badly but you don't see Nintendo focusing all their efforts on the 3ds... Majority of the main games that are coming out this year are on the wiiU and it shows the fans that Nintendo is willing to support their purchase regardless of the sales. The only reason the vita is getting any love at this point is cause Sony has great relationships with third parties, both niche and non-niche which is great but I would like them to put some effort in saving the vita instead of just hoping for some magical game to save the console that they are not willing to do themselves

Vi... ta...? What?

Honestly, they never should've released the thing. Handhelds is a dying market. The Xperia Play was a good idea, but terribly executed - they should have released it with full access to the PS Store (PSOne Classics and PSP games) and the PlayStore. I think I'm a little delusional.

They should discontinue it if they're putting all they're games on PS4 anyways.

Those gifs are awesome!

I kind of think sony was riding on the success of the ps4 to push vita sales too. It has that remote play thing. Paying $200 for the vita as an add on to the ps4 seems a bit absurd. I'm not sure the vita can even be saved at this point anyways.

I think the term "indie machine" isn't appropiate. The term "PS4 controller" seems like a more accurate description for the system.

What do you mean when you say... "keep" supporting the Vita with AAA titles?

I didn't buy the Vita for AAA, unless the AAA game was Final Fantasy. I brought it for all those niche Jrpgs, and because my friend had one xD
