Pretty sure stole the first bit in the OP from an N4G comment :P

A price cut or simple redesign will make little to no difference. Its pointless. The last gen of consoles is pretty much saturated by now.

As Sony showed with the PS2 there are emerging markets they can sell too for a long time after a new gen launches.

Different gens, different world, different consoles.

The shipments show us how this is panning out.  The PS3 and 360 are dying rapidly (aligned the PS3 is dying quicker).  Emerging markets want the ONE and PS4 now, they arent the second class economies they once where.  They will ship very low numbers this FY, almost nothing next FY and then be discontinued.

... Or, to put it another way, the PS3 has been outselling the 360 nearly every  week for years now. It's just not outselling it by as much now.

The PS5 Exists.

PS3 needs a lot of help Sony has really botched it late in life. Obviously 360 outsold PS3 worldwide and this is a big reason why.

PS3 is high priced compared to 360, Apparently Sony is not able to get engineer the cost down, and the new design looks horrible and ugly. It got outsold 2-1 by 360 last NPD and is and has been outsold by 360 worldwide clearly both lifetime and for the last 1-2 years (both recent ship figures and NPD prove this, and of course MS sold 80m before Sony which is proven by their press releases direct from both Sony and Microsoft). All this despite the media endlessly hyping the P3 and titles like Last of Us asnd even nonexistent titles like Last Guardiann the last 3 years (more like 5 years of endless media hype for a game that doesn't even exist in the case of LG, truly amazing).

Yes.  Are you trying to make some kind of console warz point? I was merely pointing out the facts of the tail end of this gen.  Its dying quick.  You agree presumably?

LOL. I'm sure you are far more qualified to  be talking 'objectively' about consoles.

Which is very obvious from the fact that it's outselling X360 almost 2:1 on weekly basis globally. And by the fact tthat there are still games coming out for PS3 exclusively, announced even well in to 2015, while it's been over a year that X360 had any exclusive games, and is sentenced to piggybacking off it's younger brother (Titanfall, PvZ...)

Of course that you would argue otherwise, because of your fanboy sunglasses being so tinted you fail to see anything besides color green.

PS3 still has 3-5 years of sales ahead of it, and it will probably reach 90M before it's finally phased out.

Do not waste your E3 press conference on PS3. Move on already.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Are they really trying to increase  PS3 sales now ?

If Sony can keep the current demand  for PS3 while reducing manufacture costs.  It's more profits for them, isn't it ?

New model doesn't necessarily means price cut.

A good sign for prediction #3 of mine:

Current demand is falling.  Whats hard to understand?  It will be dead next year.

demand isnt linear, it changes with factors such as entering new markets and price cuts. Whats hard to understand? It wont be dead next year.

If it is then I think they should announce two versions of PSThree. One version would be $99 with no Blu-ray and 500gb HDD and the other version would be $199 with Bu-ray and 1tb HDD. Both would be labelled PSNow ready.

PS3 12 GB Sold Out at Major Retailers Online; a Possible Sign of an E3 Announcement?

by Giuseppe Nelva (18 minutes ago) 1

Looks like something is up with the “super slim” 12 GB PS3 model, as there has been an unusual drought at major North American online retailers. The console is currently completely out of stock at Target, GameStop, Amazon and Walmart.

This could mean several things, but the sudden drying of the stock with this kind of timing at the very least means that Sony halted or considerably slowed down shipments, and could be a sign of an announcement coming at E3, possibly about a new redesign, or maybe a price drop, especially considering the rumor appeared last year about a new model with a 22nm Cell chip. The current model could even be phased out in favor of something else.

We reached out to Sony Computer Entertainment for a comment, and we’ll let you know if we receive any relevant information on the issue, but one thing is for sure: if you’re in the market for a new PS3 you may have a harder time than usual.

I can tell you right now 1 TB at 199$ will not happen.

99$ for no disc drive is also very unlikely
