Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Tecmo Koei Wants to sell 1 Million Copies of Hyrule Warriors

I want to play as a Goron!

Hyrule Warriors will sell more than all versions of Dynasty Warriors 8 and Extreme Legends easy. I'm thinking atleast 1.5m.

Dynasty Warriors isn't popular in the US, but most Zelda fans will buy anything Zelda regardless of quality.

The Zelda brand alone will probably do that for them.

Link's Crossbow Training sold like 5 million copies for crying out loud.

Tecmo? A million this early in the generation? ......BAHAAAHAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHH!!!!!

I'm really excited for this game because it, for once, looks like an actual war your apart of. I've always longed for a more warlike Zelda game. Adventure is fun but Hyrule is the perfect setting for an awesome war game.

Dynasty Warriors 6 (2007) sold 0.98 million on PS3 and 360.

Dynasty Warriors 7 (2011) sold 1.06 million on PS3 and 360.

Dynasty Warriors 8 (2013) sold 0.63 million on PS3 and 360. Temco also released a "complete edition", called Xtreme Legends for DW8, which added another 0.23 million in sales, for a total of 0.85 million.

All values are based on VGChartz numbers.

I think any bonus sales that they get because of the Zelda branding will just cancel out lost sales from being exclusive.

To hit a million, they would have to sell about half in Japan (where the series is popular). That would mean 1 out of every 4 Wii U owners in Japan would have to pick up a copy. That does not seem likely to me (only about 1 in 20 PS3 owners picked up a copy of DW8).

I think they are more likely to sell about 0.5 million copies, with maybe another 0.1 million for an Xtreme edition.

I call 400k at best.

Soooo they expect it to be one of the best selling musou games ever, on a home console with extremely small userbase that isn't getting all the other musou games, and the ones it got sold poorly. Sounds plausible.

I don't see it happening. Perhaps if they're all like "THIS IS THE NEW ZELDA!" in the west and a bunch of people really have no idea what's up.

They should say "This is the new Skyrim" to make it sell.   If people dont really have an idea they probably dont care about Zelda.

Skyrim is more popular among mainstreamers I guess. (not that its a typical mainstream game but I am sure more people bought skyrim because they wanted to be cool as it was a must have game with a ton of media presence etc than they bought a Zelda game)

Tecmo Koei Games president Yoichi Erikawa has stated the firm hopes to sell 1 million copies of Hyrule Warriors on Wii U

>this summer release
>no precise date
>no commercials
>no trailers on even screenshots
>Japan dont care bout Zelda
I'm highly doubt that.
