I don't know about Wii U sales, but I think that it's a safe bet to think that MK8 itself will sell somewhere around 500k-1 mil. the first week. It's a big release, and a big deal "AAA" title, so even stores like Gamestop will actually bother promoting it.

A million? Really? That seems unlikely. 500k a stretch but posssible a million would kind of blow my mind.

Why is it so hard to imagine? This is not just THE biggest Wii U title to launch thus far, it's also one of THE biggest games on any system in this new generation to launch, period. It's going to be one of the single biggest releases of 2014, and there is major hype surrounding it. There are tons of pre-orders, but more importantly, LOTS of people are going to buy it. Think about it for a moment. Of the 6+ million Wii U owners right now, you have to believe most of them are pretty hardcore Nintendo fans, aka already major Mario Kart fans. Just out of the current existing install-base, it's actually very easy to believe that at LEAST 1 million of them, myself included, is going to run out and buy MK8 on launch day.

Then of course, there are all the people who have been on the fence/waiting to get a Wii U until something like Mario Kart or Smash Bros. came along. Well, it's here, and many of those people are now going to be ready to make the leap. Especially with a bundle available on launch day in many regions.

So you combine all that? I'm not saying it's 100% for sure that MK8 will do a million Week 1. But I'm saying it's absolutely very possible.

It releases on a friday it's first week of sales will acount for 2 days. If it can sell 500,000-1million units in 2 days. I will personally declare the Wiiu the definitive come back kid and winner of the 8th gen.

considering it's first week of sales will be 2 days long it is actually possible it's second week (for both hardware and software) could be higher.

Wii U:

1° Week: 210,000
2° Week: 130,000
3° Week: 100,000

...And will sold more of PS4 fist week(180,000), but PS4 back to dominate in 2° week (160,000).

Mario Kart 8:

1° Week: 1,000,000

2° Week: 600,000

3° Week: 350,000

We have some preliminary numbers from ioi and they are pretty much suggesting this. (for first week) Congrats.

I was underestimating the game.

Do retailers even have enough units in stock to sell 200.000 at this point?

Since this thread was revived, i`ll say just this.

Reggie announced that sales for Wii U, in the States, increased 4x in comparison to Mk 8`s launch week.

14 June: PS4: 150,000 Wii U: 95,000

What actually happened on June 7th

PS4: 121k

Wii U:85k

It's hard to say, VGC is not reliable when it comes to tracking Nintendo hardware boosts, I think they bow to some of the pressure/hype from Nintendo fans on the message boards and overstate the boosts, because that NPD discrepancy is huge this month.

I think its more like ioi saw the reports of 600% or whatever increase in UK and tried basing US sales around that.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

I seriously doubt I Vgchartz will bend to Nintendo fans pressure. Sounds a bit like nonsense to me.

However IOI arrived at the initial figure I don't know but it was changed after Reggie said it quadrupled sales that week. The modified figure was 4x the previous week so he obviously took Reggie's words as factual.
