so I'm confused now, is this the next installment or a Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes type prequel/spinoff thing.

As I thought. From next fall games will start to appear at 60fps on the One. Developers just need a bit of time to make it work...that and they underestimated how important this was to the general gaming public as proof of the next-gen tag. The resolution is less important for now until most owned TV's are 1080p, my 38in flatscreen is 720p and i've only owned it 3 years, won't be upgrading for a couple years yet

I find this kinda a bizarre announcement. I'm guessing this + the price cut were knee-jerks to tumbling XB1 sales (sorry! but it certainly seems that way).

The price cut... kinda makes sense. Get word out there and everything.

This one, less so. Reiterating that the dedicated Halo studio they created are working on a new Halo game, that is indeed the next in the series and is based on the trailer we saw last year.

Bit of a redundant announcement. A big 'ol info blowout either here or at E3 would've made more of an impact, imo, but there you go.

Meanwhile at Sony we get one year old footage from Driveclub....

I commend Microsoft for this, Sony has become complacent.

Ok everyone - we all follow gaming news on a day-to-day basis.

But this wasn't some hyped up announcement, we heard rumours it would happen TEN HOURS AGO!

So, people's personal interest aside, lets be clear. Announcing a main series Halo, especially the first main series Halo on a new console, is ALWAYS a big deal!

I always guessed 5th Novermber 2015

Till then the X1 might be at around 250$ - Could get interesting.
Depends on how good it will be i will buy a X1 for it.

Sure it's a big deal but I don't know if this was the best way to announce it. A picture and a release window just seems a bit underwhelming for Microsoft's biggest exclusive. A full blown trailer at E3 would have garnered a better response. This just feels like a knee-jerk reaction to the NPD numbers. Kind of like Nintendo announcing new Pokemon games the same day as their financials came in. Though that was at least a surprise announcement since nobody saw it coming. And for the record, I think Sony made the same mistake with announcing Uncharted 4 when they had nothing to show. 

I dont know - I think they wanted to get the announcement out of the way so that they can have the reveal at E3 and let whatever else they have shine.

Perhaps that is wishful thinking.
