Forums - Sales Discussion - Xbox one will catch up soon with PS4 and then outsell it in the USA

Looks like Xbox One didn't top PS4 in NPD. Xbox Wire claiming sales more than doubled though.

Yup, if they had beat the PS4 in June NPD, they would have been shouting it from the rooftops.  The spin is the same they use for Windows Phone and Surface. "Sales terrible?  Well, just put out that we doubled sales!"  The thing is...it's not hard to double when your starting number is so small!

The fact that the PS4 is beating them out, even AFTER the $399 model came out, is very telling.  And, if they are barely keeping pace in the US...they are getting SLAUGHTERED globally!

In light of the recent comments from Nadella, I wouldn't be too sure that the Xbox has a future...at least not one beyond this generation.  I can see them using the BRAND for mobile gaming...but they just CANT keep throwing money at it, hoping that "one day" they will end up with some profit!

Guess price wasnt the only reason PS4 was outselling Xbox1 afterall....

1000 post for this thread ? Wow, congrats : D

Tomorrow will be a funny day, i expect something like 150k for Xone and 230 for ps4 :)

Halo will not be as strong a killer app anymore. And Microsoft's image is hurt.

I predict close to Wii U numbers when all is said and done.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Yea, that was what I was thinking, too.  Maybe drop to 3rd party and call it Xbox Publishing or something.  I just don't see big investors, or even the heads at MS, taking another swing at the console market if this gen doesn't change around.  Especially since the Xbox division is in the red, overall, since its inception.  The OG Xbox lost them billions.   The 360 is making them money, now, but only after losing them billions.  And the One probably won't lose them billions, but it is going to lose them tens or hundreds of millions with all the ads and deals they have been doing, with very little to show for it.

Well, it looks like June NPD is going to be on the order of 155k to 160k. Unless the PS4 did substantially worse in June than in May (unlikely, especially considering June is a five-week month), then I think we can call it: the XBO has no chance of passing the PS4 in LTD sales, not soon, and probably not ever.

Yea, I don't see that happening, either.  Given the 5-week vs 4 week, the PS4 must have done at least 200K.  So, even with the $399 price point, something some were suggesting would skyrocket sales for the One, the PS4 should still outsell it by ~30K, probably more.  What's worse is that going by Gamestop and Amazon, the majority of those One sales happened the 1st and 2nd week of the price cut, with the following weeks dropping like a stone.  This means that a lot of those sales were probably just would-be May purchasers waiting for the cheaper SKU, and real interest in the One has only slightly increased, if at all.  Next month won't be pretty.

If this thread were to be locked, then it'll be probably a week after June's NPD comes out. We will get our good fair share of celebrating PS4's likely victory for June and the mods will lock the thread because at that point, the debate will be over. Actually, I felt that the debate was over quite a while ago, but TheDrill keeps insisting on the contrary.

The ps4 and X1 aren't even 1 full year on the market.

In USA the current sales as well as the total sales are really close, and you're naming winners already?

Please, be more reasonable.

You ask for the italicized, but the bolded is the antithesis to what you're asking, especially when you've been saying that total sales are close for a quadrillionth time without evidence -_-"

What did "soon" mean then?  So we can actually hold you to a prediction instead of this wishy washy bullshit.

At the time, based on the calculations at the time, I figured X1 might catch up with PS4 by end of 2014, first quarter of 2015

Now I think this might happen (at the current rate) summer 2015 or at worst late 2015.

You are acting even sillier than you have at the beginning of this thread. Enough of this goalpost moving, beating around the bush statements and stick with something more concrete. Your inverbal admittance of the outrageousnous of your original prediction shows that you have no idea what you're talking about and thus, you have resorted to severely bending truths to fit your argument (and you're doing it poorly).

NPD is close to being out and MS said that sales more than doubled in June. Very vague statement because their May numbers were so low. We're seeing around 160k sales for June. However, monthly PS4 sales average out to approximately 200k. If the X1 has outsold the PS4 in June, we would have already heard from MS already saying that they "proudly announced that X1 was the #1 console in June." However, they instead made a vague announcement, but hey, it's much better than May.

When you take the average sales in May and June, it's really bad. MS stated that X1 sales more than doubled. In May, they sold 77k, so let's assume that they sold 160k for June. Add those two numbers together and divide by two, and we'll get 118.5k units per month. This is a terrible baseline, especially when the PS4 averages ~200k a month, therefore outselling its competition by a 5:3 ratio.
