From Iwata's own comments.

That you interpereted into your own.

I've seen pretty much all of what he's said, and he's never out-right mentioned something like Fusion. He could be referring to something much more simple in the grand scheme of things.

I would say his comments really aren't all that ambigious. He's even specifically used examples like the iPhone-iPad-iOS setup.

That and just common sense -- frankly put, Nintendo doesn't have the resources to properly support 2 distinct gaming platforms at once ... even when the employee bump they are still a very small company and now they also will have to divert resources to this QoL thing too and development costs/resources are not declining each generation.

A fusion platform simply is the only logical conclusion IMO, that or simply going handheld only (which I don't think Nintendo wants to do). But even there, Nintendo would need some kind of draw for a new handheld, and being able to play/share games with your TV system is pretty much a no brainer.

Two years from now or three years from now, it doesn't make much difference. Given their history, they'd be wise to get started with software development for their next platforms right now.

QoL

Iwata specifically refers to QoL, merchandising/business, and this "New Platform" as the three pillars of their future strategy, so I take it that QoL and this mystery platform that he's discussing are probably seperate entities. I'm not even sure if QoL will be one product rather that just an entire line of health/fitness based products.

Even Iwata is not that stupid to talk about a new console after 1 year of Wii U's release

Shareholders have a right to know what Nintendo's business philosphy is for the future especially when they are currently losing money. I think people still think in the "handheld/console" terms are all wrong anyway. There isn't going to be another console in a traditional sense. There will be one Nintendo eShop that you can buy games on, and you can play that game on your choice of hardware variants that are all under one brand umbrella. But that is just my take on it, we'll see in the future who was right and who was wrong.

2 years doesn't seem like a bad idea... but a lot can happen in 2 years and I'd expect sony and ms to be focussing more on roku like devices for gaming in that not too distant future.

What he was talking about was that they would be like brothers more closer in architecture

Iwata around in 2 years...yeahhhhh

Let's wait what Nintendo has in store for E3 and the next times. Then we'll have a better idea of the strategy that Nintendo will use in their games and consoles for years to come.
