Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Using Sony's Playbook, Microsoft Will Attempt Xbox One's Turnaround

Turn around would mean the Xbox One would become the number 1 selling system. I do not see how that is possible even with a $100 price cut.

The generation is young. Noone expected 360 to get over 50m. We just have to wait and see what happens in the next 5-6 years

Lol man that article is brutal. He jabs and jabs and jabs and then finishes with a pat on the head with one more jab.

I can't believe that you really believe that.  They should have had an account system set up years ago after seeing how popular it was with Xbox and Playstation.  They should have improved their online infrastructure when the Xbox showed how important that would become.  They should have improved their online store experience long ago.  They should have diversified their game output, they should have been working to improve their relationships with western developers.  These are areas of success for Sony and Microsoft that are as plain as day.  Replicating these areas of success, which most customers wanted, would have done nothing to stifle Nintendo's creativity.  The only effect would have been to more level the playing field.

He's not referring to the account system, etc. He's referring to a high-cost machine focused on power and core gamer style. The general philosophy of the machine, not the specific finer details.

In other words create another Wii not Gamecube.

I never said anything about a higher spec machine, though, or even anything detailed, just that you should never be shy about taking things that obviously work and making them your own.

I'm not sure if I agree. Personally, I hate the whole 'one acocunt, one google' strategy, I really don't like having email and youtube mixed

Not exactly what I was talking about... but create two accounts. Fixed. Don't understand why people cry about that....

You definitely mentioned it in your post. And I'm not sure how you misconstrued that post as 'crying'

Gregg Moskowitz of Cowen & Company asked Microsoft management to clarify why Xbox platform revenue grew $1.2 billion year-over-year in the second quarter, but at the same time related cost-of-goods-sold rose $1.6 billion.

Amy Hood, Microsoft's Chief Financial Officer, said that Microsoft is still in "launch mode" for the Xbox One and will continue to expand markets over the course of the year, implying the company could likely see costs exceed revenue in the near term.  http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2014/03/05/electronic-arts-titanfall-is-a-big-deal.aspx

edit: After having those numbers added to last years numbers It at most it shows the margin on the console is currently pretty low, but not necessarily losing money. With a 100 dollar pricecut around the corner that could change but I was wrong to insinuate they already were losing money.

Are we just going to ignore direct ways sony has copied MSFT:

-drm

-1080 60 fps

-ads on premium service

I could also list what MSFT copied from Sony

Do you see how stupid this is?

LOL So they didnt follow Sony on the DRM Policies? The dropping of third party app usage from Xbox Live? The price point? Creating Games for Gold because of the value Playstation Plus brings to gamers?

Oh wait no. Of course you have to cut Sony down even though they are actually helping the cause of the xbox gamer by helping show Microsoft how to please gamers. I tell you if Sony ever died you guys would see what the world would be like with just Microsoft running shit against Nintendo. It would be the least creative times ever and would there would be so much nickel and diming it wouldnt even be funny. Without Sony to teach them right from wrong, this gen could've been such a monsterious fail for Microsoft even for the most ardent Xbox believer.

And yet just days ago Sony was busted trying to lock SP downloaded content behind a paywall. Maybe one day you'll understand all these are companies, none are worth getting emotionally attached to, and all would love to find ways to squeeze every last penny they can out of you.

As for the article, idk, does it ever mention anything they "use from Sony" aside from not locking subscription services behind a paywall? Because plenty of devices did that long before PS3.
